Also, you gotta look at things with at least some perspective
In the late 70/early 80s nations were tripping over themselves to order the F-16.
Now look at its replacement.
Even if you assume a 2:1 replacement ratio, F-35s will in no way be ordered in as many numbers.
Several factors here
1) Cold War is over, countries have more choice. In the past you went either US/USSR (maybe France at a push)
2) Massive cost overuns of the F-35. Would be interesting to see how its current prices compares to in 1982 dollar terrms
3) Political strings. In the past the US could pretty much do what it wanted with regards to selling its aircraft. Most nations now (including very close US allies)want operational autonomy
4) Some countries dont even need such a fighter. For example, NATO members like Hungary, Portugal and Czech obviously have no military doctrine requiring such a vital “first day of the war” aircraft
Under cost estimates? No major issues?
Do you write press releases for LM!?
Well, unless major cuts occur in the buys from these partners, the F-35 will have more exports than the the Typhoon, Rafale, Gripen, Su-35, T-50, etc….
I suspect that you’ll see more nations buying them as well, over the next 20-30yrs. I think it’s highly likely Israel will end up buying them, and the last I heard was that Japan was looking at buying 40 of them.
Not quite.
Take out US Forces and it is not “selling like crazy”. Typhoon and SU-30 series definately selling better….
Although a great feat for Boeing, the super hornet is not nearly the undertaking that the f-35 is.
Never said it was. Was just asked for an example and I gave one.
What about Australia, Holland, Norway, Italy, Turkey, Denmark, etc…?
Can you actually read?
All of the above are Level 1,2 or 3 partners.
I specifically said “apart from partners”.
This is the second time you have have not read my posts.
Would you care to point out a new fighter program that has been on time and under budget, so we can compare and contrast?
Super Hornet.
Thats a copy-paste of what you posted before. So why should my answer be any different. My answer is also the same.
Ask me something interesting … only then you will get a well researched response. I will not tell you how many F35’s will be bought over 20 years.
You wont tell me, because other then what has been committed to, no one has any idea.
That is probably the reason it is “too boring” for you.
Let me give you some advice (assuming you are a person who takes advice).
Dont make sweeping comments that you cannot logically explain.
Does not look very bright. Even to a “short stories” book love like myself!
I am not going to talk to you about the numbers of F35 that will sell over the next two decades. Thats just too boring.
I have much better things to do. If you want to waste your time go out and pick up a good novel from Barnes and Noble. Or if you dont like big novels pick up a “collection of short stories” book.
You mean we can just make sweeping statement like “it will sell like crazy” and not back it up?
Why does that not suprise me on this forum….
Canada, Britain, along with the other partner nations which you conveniently omitted.
Before you do the smart rolly eyes emoticon.
Wanna read this bit of my post?
“Apart from partner nations”
“Apart from those traditional US stalwarts of Canada and Australia,”
The F35A, F35C and land-based F35B will sell like crazy world wide.
The carrier-based F35B is experiencing thermal issues. But I am confident solutions will be found since the CVF will be operating these.
Really!?
Apart from partner nations (and even some of these like the UK may cut there order!)
Israel – They are looking at cheaper alternatives.
Japan – Turning their nose up. Want F-22 instead, may even opt for Eurocanard
Not even in the running for Brazil, Indian and UAE competitions.
Most of the Middle East is out due to politics.
Most major US allies in Asia are out due to finance and/or poltics.
Pakistan = No
Thailand = No
Malaysia = No
Korea = No (may even develop its own!)
Tawain = NO (Even cannot get F-16C/Ds at the momment!)
All of South America is out due to finance
Africa is out due to Finance and the only country that MAY have afforded it has gone for Gripen.
Apart from those traditional US stalwarts of Canada and Australia, how exactly will this “sell like crazy”!?
How long is a piece of string?
All kept quite low key for Red Flag. Pictures indicate all 8 birds are 2 seater Bs.
Thought they were gas cylinders.
Yeah, you may wanna ad weapons, just to make sure they look like bad guys. Although, to be honest, many men in that region carry weapons and are not bad guys.
Thats just me nit picking though….
It is certainly an accurate portrayal
The guys in the pick up are unarmed…..
I dont see it happening now.
I think the “window” for such an attack has already passed.
Israeli-US relations all time low
Israeli standing in the world at a all time low
The Brazil-Turkey initiative (even if it is a ploy by Iran) can let the Iranians argue that they were seeking a peacful way out. Hence any country striking it will look like an aggressor.
