    Israel shelves tanker replacement plans

The Israeli air force has shelved plans to find a near-term replacement for its Boeing 707 tankers.

A senior air force source says that after evaluating the possible alternatives, a decision has been taken to retain the current fleet of converted aircraft. Other options under consideration had included modifying Boeing 767s and the Gulfstream G550 business jet, which has already been adapted for Israeli use as a surveillance platform.

Indeed, what timing I acccidentally had. Great news though. I felt the Cheetahs were very capable airplanes and that it was a shame they had been retired.

So as for Kfir operators, am I correct in saying that Colombia, Ecuador, and Sri Lanka are the current operators of that aircraft?

I suppose we can add the Cheetah back to being operational if this deal goes through.

Makes you wonder if Dassault had imagined that their Mirage III airframe would spawn such a successful career…

Well, MIG-21 is not doing too bad on the upgrade front either.

Lancer, Bison and F-7PG. All not bad planes at all….

Since there are no ‘visible’ squadron markings, I am assuming that these are still test units.

    Not quite right.

Lots of PLAAF units do not carry sqd markings.

Well, the official website of Farnborough airshow does not list JF-17s in the flying displays. However, 2xJF-17s by CATIC are listed in the static display section..

    Let’s see what happens.

Yeah, lets see what happens. I will take the word of the Pakistan High Commission though.

If you think we are taking 2 planes just to park ’em up you will be disapointed.

In your determination to put down everything Pakistan (lets not pretend and hide it as anything less), you forget this little bit of the website link your provided.

Please note displays may be subject to change

There has been a lot of “heart-break” amongst Pakistani enthusiasts over why the JF-17 was restricted to only static displays at Farnborough.

In my view, the reason could be that JF-17 does not have any kind of flight certification. The Farnborough authorities did not want to take any kind of risk given the number of spectators on the ground. So, they allowed only static displays but no flying displays.

Dont worry about our broken hearts anymore…. 😀

Thanks for your kind words and your opinions on why it may not fly.

Lets what and see what Farnborogh brings.

However, great acheivment by CAITIC and PAC in bringing this bird to the world’s premier airshow and actively pitching it nations such as Egypt and Azerbajan.

Let us see if there are any contract announcments.

Good point. Would have been much easier and cheaper to just send more fighters to Afghan bases.

This is a prime case of a navy trying to justify it’s carrier….

Interesting to see what people think is the ultimate Mirage 3/5 variant.

The Cheetah, Kfir C7 or Mirage ROSE?
