Still some discrepncies in numbers with Pak press claiming 18 new birds being ordered and US DOD stating 12.

Surely you mean page number 62 of the document, which is actually on 69 out of the 241 pages of the PDF?

The document actually states that these 12 ‘new’ F16s will not be funded by the security-assistance package or PCCF, as well as the mid-life upgrade for existing F16s and the AIM 120s.

Apologies, my bad on page number. Could come out of FMF?

Stunning. But would it really be the best investment now that Pakistan has suffered a horrible floodingdisaster and houndreds of thousands are homeless?

That is obviously a value judgement, defence V Welfare. I actually agree with you, but I would not be suprised if a lot of the money comes from US Military Aid, which has recently seen a big increase.

Wow, had to look hard, but gets more interesting!

Hidden away in this notification is a deal for “12 new F-16s”

Looks like options on the extra 18 Block 52s have been exercised.
As 36 were mentioned in the original DSCA release, I take it another notification does not have to be released?

Pak receives three US F-16 aircrafts
Updated at: 0835 PST, Sunday, October 31, 2010

Three other aircraft reached Pakistan in June as part of the consignment, while the remaining would be handed over by the end of December. Pakistani pilots were trained by the US Air Force prior to the handing over and they flew the aircraft in the Pakistani airspace.

A PAF spokesman said: ‘Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman has congratulated the Pakistani nation on enhanced strength of its fighter jets’ fleet.’

Sources said the arrival of these five F-16 jets was scheduled for September 2010 but was delayed due to floods in August and September. The Shahbaz Airbase was partially inundated during the floods that wreaked havoc across Pakistan, leaving over 1,800 dead and over 20 million homeless.

The government of former Pakistan president Gen. (Retd.) Pervez Musharraf had struck a deal with the US for the purchase of 24 refurbished F-16 aircrafts to enhance air warfare capacity of the country. The new government, after taking charge in 2008, decided to buy 18 additional new block-52 fighter jets

    Hi Taygibay

I never actually knew the E-3s were part of their nuke deterrent. Very interesting, thanks

Could we not also pool the E-3 fleets?

That way get the 7th back into service, and have a fleet of 11 for both countries and they can just “buy hours”?

Assuming we can get the minor tech differences sorted?

    Say base them at Waddington?

$400 Million more announced on top of the $2 Billion

I think there will be some major weapons purchases announced very soon.

Yes, Hurkus. Their air force probably evaluated it and went for KT-1.

Good on them for selecting the best even if it is not home grown. 😉

every post on this subject makes massive assumptions. Best not to even argue as we would be here all week.

Needless to say, militarily Pakistan is very close to Turkey, UAE and Saudi. The truth is we simply do not know what will happen. Anyone who claims otherwise is wrong….

Agreed, in ’65 and ’71 Arab nations helped, I would not be surprised if this was not forthcoming again, the only question is the form this help would take.

As someone mentioned, stopping all oil to India may actually be more effective then sending a few F-16s…

I belive people always will have their point as valid in discussions.

Now why have religious initials on weapon systems, a whole page on quality of some product and what quality is shown in discussing it with religion as source or destination.

Sure all of us can do better.

    Wake up people!

Well said. Amazed some posts have been allowed to be honest.
