Not ignoring time Swerve. Its just you only now introduced that caveat. In “time” eventually everything will be retired, so what is the point?

Safe to say Saudi C/D Eagles are going nowhere “any time soon”…..

    I disagree.

The Saudi’s flogged their F-5s for years. They have a good cadre of F-15 C/D pilots, the C/D can still more then match most threats.

Most of these birds are only 20-25 years old.

In fact, no C/D users is planning retirement anytime soon bar USAF.

But the Saudis are getting a high/high mixture.

What extra Typhoons? 72 is the number ordered so far. Also, the F-15 C/Ds will be retired. They’re the oldest aircraft in the inventory.

I did say IF in case you missed that on the extra Typhoons. I know another 72 is being bandied around in the press.

Also, any real source for the retirement of the C/D Eagles?

In fact, the 462 JHMCS order leads me to believe that the AIM9Xs and helmets can also be for the C/Ds. Even if you divide the number by 2 (for the two seater Es) you still have alot left over

Sorry, missed the Sniper pod line!

Wow, if the Saudis go for the extra Typhoons that will give them what?

    156 F-15SAs
    72-144 Typhoons
100 odd upgraded Tornado IDS variants

That does not even take into account their 70 odd F-15C/Ds.

Thats 470 top end fighters. Equipment wise that probably makes them the 3/4th most powerful air force in the world….

AESA and AMRAAM C7 is good.

LANTRIN and no Sniper pod seems strange, maybe Israeli pressure.

Anyone know the difference between a Saudi F-15S and the F-15SA? Just the radar?

Still it can only operate Harriers. India will get 2 carriers vastly superior than the Ark Royal with in a decade hence it do not make sense to have the Ark Royal.

As for Harriers thanks for correcting me still its viable to purchase them as the INs harrier fleet is shrinking.

And arrows if you do not know a proverb proper don’t use it.

A Little Knowledge is indeed a very dangerous thing.

I would rather get a proverb wrong then just start posting random thoughts that I really have no idea on…..

Besides, if the Gorshkov saga is anything to go buy, good luck…..

Little knowledge a dangerous thing hey….

The AR is at least 30 years younger then the Viraat. A completely different generation in terms of endurence, radar and weapons systems.

Viraat has been in dock for what, 5 out of the past 10 years?

Also, what radar and missiles? Harrier GR9s fly off the thing, not Sea Harriers, these were retired years ago. They do not have any radar or long range AAMs.

You can never be a super power if the very power you have is almost entirely dependent on another super power.

Israel will only be as powerful as the US wants it to be.

Well according to some interesting people LCA is really advanced than another fighter it is often compared to.

Wow, talk about too little knowledge being a dangerous thing….

Nawaz Sharif’s public statments make George W look positively intellectual…

    You mean me…?:D

Because Italy itself actually plans a massive (and unrealistic) buy of F35A to replace Tornado and AMX, and as many as possibly 65 F35B to replace the Navy’s Harriers and give the air force a jump jet force as well.

A fleet of just Typhoon and F35 (either B and C, or B, or C) was the UK’s plan from the very first moment, so it is nothing new either.

No, the Tornado IDS fleet was due to be replaced by a seperate system orginally.

Only Italy had this a an orginal plan.

If you wanted to reconfigure the entire UK Fast jet fleet around Typhoon and F35C that would be the way to do it.

Looks like the Italians had the right idea all along….

What kind of silly explanation is that ? I can agree Gripen may be aerodynamically better than the Tejas and hence have better performance but to say that the specs of Gripen is a closely guarded secret is laughable.

Do you think it will have a chance in an order like the MRCA if they do not reveal the specs ? They are offering ToT for nuts and bolts and radar even and would hide the real specs ?

Believe it or not, there is alot of military info out there that is not available on Google. Shocking I know…..

Only in the most abstract sense, I’d expect. Keep in mind that their engine would likely have an afterburner which means the lessons learned from any B-2 intelligence would probably not be directly applicable. UAVs and UCAVs would stand to benefit more from this scoop.

True, but the whole B-2 episode is only what we know in the public domain. They could have many more US/European secrets….

Your total include pre-production and text frames that may never enter service and 20 planes that have not been ordered yet.

Suppose my version of “gathering steam” is different to yours.
