Yes, but you forget with air to air refuelling and internal weapons carriage, Raptor can actually porbably carry out many of its designated missions in “clean” configuration……..

The Indian Air Force will buy 80 medium lift multi-role Mi-17 1V helicopters from Russia, Indo-Asian News Service reported on Sunday, Oct. 15, quoting Indiaβs Chief of Air Staff Marshal S.P. Tyagi. Tyagi told the news agency that procedure of purchase would be over within a few months.
Russia will start delivering the helicopters in 2007 and finish it within a year, he said.
Tyagi did not mention the cost of the purchase, but itβs estimate to equal approximately $662 million, depending on the configurations and on-board equipment like avionic.
Mi-17 1V is an upgrade to Mi-17, a derivative of Mi-8 which has long-served in the Indian Air Force and gradually phased out.
With a service ceiling of six kilometers, the Mi-17 1V has functioned well in hot, high and humid conditions. It can transport troops and cargo, undertake fire-fighting, medical evacuation and search and rescue missions, and can also be quickly armed for combat and special operations.
Helicopters have played an important role in flying supplies to Indian troops in high altitude areas in the Himalayas as well as to carry out rescue operation in natural disasters.
The Air Force also expected the government to announce tenders for the 126 multi-role combat aircraft very soon, Tyagi said.
Latest AFM (Nov 2006), has news in latest IAF aqqusitions as per already reported.
Also gives the news on the Bison servicability rate.
Additionally,
“similar problems” with Jaguar and MIG-27 fleet.
90 Jaguars and 110 MIG-27MLs “contstantly affected by technical malfunctions”
Number of available aircraft in IAF fighter squadrons gradually decreasing.
The problem is much worse then orginally thought it seems.

Whats the advantge of PAF writing this software instead of getting manufacturer to do it?
A joint Chinese/US airstrike on all suspected NoKo targets?
Redgriffin
Dude, dont bother, these guys are here to stir it.
They thought we could not do Cruise Missiles, order submarines, etc etc.
When news is release they crawl back. Leave it be.
We must live in fear of their Akash, Arjun, LCA and bow our heads down. π
Come on, tell us! We all know what you want to say, so come out with it and start a flame thread.
Any excuse…….
Its been tested!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothr Korea joins the nuke club!
Great, by not writing anything substatitated but just simply pouring down alot of crap you guys think you win arguements with phrases like
“I live near an IAF base and hear jets alot” hence our training must be good!?
I give up, I have made my points. If it will take PAF 10 years to operationalise our fleets that we have ordered, how long will it take the IAF to induct and operationalise all teh fancy stuff it MIGHT ORDER IN THE FUTURE!?
Clowns! Having you guys reply to my posts with yoru fantasies just makes you look ignorant.
Now I gotta go, lunch to catch.
Beef stew! :diablo:
later
have u thought it this way .. by when u’ll have ur whole jf17 delivered and j10 delivered we;ll have all MKI’s , upgraded Mig 29’s, LCA inducted, few batches of MRCA delivered, 6 awacs , indigenous awacs ready …. by 2012 agni 3 will also be ready ………. dude the list will go on and on.
while work will be progressed on MCA/ PAKFA then there is space stuffs , avtar etc etc etc………
talk bout AIP? how many AIP will pakistan have within 2015? and how many sub will we have? 2 ssn , hopefuly 1 ATV atleast 6 scorpenes…. amurs… sagarika………etc etc etc.its slow but i 100% agree with wisepanda in democracy things procurement r slow but when we’ll get we’ll get a lot… and one thing dont forget the way wer developing everyyear we’ll surpass Pakistan by a huge margin just like china did with us in 1990. a decade ago the diff between us and chine wasnt much in economy but now its a lot but now we r coping and in some fields we r much better.
it’ll take time but within 3-5 years i’m kinda sure IAF will be 50% more powerful… seeing world threats coming the way it has to be.
net centric.. awacs…dedicated sats.. gps..new bases…a whole new infrastructure :).
lets just wait and see.and forget bout jf17 with amraam’s.. us will never in this earth provide source codes for their amraams. afterall not many countries gets the favor to incorporate R77 in any platform….
I never once mentioned the PAF has integrated AMRRAM with JF-17 yet. The fighter has not even entered service. I said it would be POSSIBLE to integrate AMRAAM with a Grifo radar should it be selected and if we were allowed.
If IAF will be 50% more powerful (who on earth did you come up with such a % figure si beyond me), look at the leaps and bounds by wihch its nearest rival will progress.
PAF
BVR
In flight refuelling
Erieye
F-16s
JF-17s
J-10s
TPS-77 radars
JDAMS
Unlike alot of the IAF equipment which has yet to be ordered all of teh above HAVE BEEN ORDERED and are being delivered.
MRCA – No order
LCA (just 20)
PAK/FA – Will it get off the ground?
No tell me, who is going to be 50% more powerful in 4 years?
if one looks back at history, India always need a slap to wake up and start running and inshallah circumstances/munna’s always do that once a decade (collapse of ussr, kargil, chinese moves…). Stuff is always late to be purchased or upged (true for almost any armed forces…see the british gripes about common stuff like rifles and shoes) … its not easy in a democratic setup to allocate huge resources on any one item…for each rupee there are 10 claimants all with valid cases.
but in the end, India always gets stuff in major quantity – 1500 T72 tanks or 400 FH77 howitzers or phalcons (entire NATO has all of 20, even 3+3 will be a good number) or Hawks 66 to start with and IN joining in. helicopters in huge quantity, UAV in huge nos, big nos of Mig27, big nos of Jaguars
conventionally India is and will remain a very dominating force in IOR and Unkil seems happy enough with that setup. with AIP submarines are made we shall finally be able to reach the long cherished (PBUH) dream of fighting a serious sea denial war in the south china sea π
things are lookin up, there is a spring in everyone step. sustained 8+% GDP growth last 4 yrs and decades of that to come will provide the $$ for umpteen good stuff….
PBUH. also Munna can forget about china helping out on the border. chinese
have no stomach left for a serious and damaging war that will hurt investor
sentiments badly. they will supply a few toys and keep a low profile behind
the green door as usual. IAF can safely denude everything to focus the heat on a few points.
Wisepanda
I dont deny for a second India is capable of defending itself, but you list all these fancy items while at the same tiem assuming your neighbours are standings till!!!!!
If you look at teh same history you point out, you can also see Pakistan kept up and in some areas surpassed India inkey areas. India eventually caught up, then Pakistan had another leap of tech. This cycle wont suddenly break all of a sudden.
You talk of eventually getting an AIP sub. PN already has one in service.
Pakistan
You talk of eventually getting 1000 T-90s
Pak Army is now in the process of creating 2nd version of Al Khalid inducting lessons lernt from Lebonna and has 310 T-80UDs and 200 Al Khalids already in service.
My point is India may well induct new equipment, but it is almost always doen as a reaction to rival procurments.
By the way, teh sarcastic jibes at Islam do you no credit whatsover, and in fact reveal alot about your true character and how you see others.
Interestingly you dont seem to be the only one conducting such religious mockery. It always seems to be Indian posters.Funny isnt it?
Greenday > what u think .. 3-4 years from now IAF wud be 50% more powerful as it is now and so wil be IN and IA.
if u think it this way PAF isnt our only barrier, we have more important strategic goals and points. u never know when china will be hostile or when aussie will demand a cake in indian ocean or when US will start plaing with its foreign policy.Greenday i COMPLETELY DISAGREE WITH YOU on the fact that we do not know how will awacs perform? geez are we producing worlds biggest number of graduates for nothing? seems like u need to talk with a IIT grad and trust me u’ll come under the impression they can understand anything or tackle anything if they want to.
I know there r lots of shortcomings and delays but showing PAF gettin F1 is mere a reason for the top brass to get things work quick ouf of MOD lousy slowass politicians.
Its your right to disagree with me.
Do you really think that IAF will be 50% more powerful in 3 years!!!!?????
How will that happen?
Every major programmme has had massive delays.
IAF still will not have
LCA in service
MRCA
most of your MKIs
What gives?
They had a cabinet meeting about 2 days ago, and aleady you have found out that everything is now hunk dorey?
Its amazing the amount of spin you guys put on almost every piece of news regarding the IAF.
Everything that is even “discussed” is regarded as a “done deal”.
Every negative report is lamblasted as misinformation.
Instead of logically arguing or even admitting yoru short comings, people put there head into the sand.
Even your ACM admits things are “worrying”, your force levels are predicted to come down to the PAFs for the first time in IAF history and your tech advantge has been negated in several areas.
IAF/MOD has been doing alot of talk, and to be honest they always do. A bit like some forum members.
Your ACM mentions 15 years before MRCAs are delivered.
In 15 years PAF and most air forces will be ordering F-16 replacements.
Its no big deal.
3 Phalcons for the entire country. You do not even know how these will perfom yet some people are claiming another trhee will be ordered. Along with the GENIOUS poster you claimed you would not have to cover the Chinese border in event of war?
Even the IAF has indicated it is unhappy with LCA. There are litrally HUNDREDS of items of news to prove this. Yet some mebers persist in claiming it will form a big part of the fleet. It took HAL several years to persuade the IAF to order just 20.
Dont get me wrong.
IAF has made major strides in modernisation, but has some way to go, and certainly has not prevented PAF from catching up.
xpost
Sigh!
I mean for all the claims we still see on the net, can we still not tell massively overmatched when we see it.? I have nothing but respect for what the PAF has managed to do, being withing the boundaries of budget restraints and active aid from the US, lets be serious.
From recent news reports (of the top of my head) :
IAF inducting 190 SU 30 MKi’s at an average of 14 – 16 per year.
Additional Mki’s to beef up no’s 40
Confirmed LCA production of 40 with possibly 20 more, with energised operation towards production on the way.
37 new Jaguars, with 17 being twin and all Litening capable , starting now.
Addtional acquisition of Mirages (possible 20), and upgrades on progress.
Upgrades of Mig 29’s to SMT and upgrades of Mig 27’s on the way, mostly inhouse.
Induction fo 66 Hawk AJT’s with a possible new role for CAS
Delivery of Phalcons 3 AWACS next year and more to be ordered (2 more)
Induction of DRDO AWACS in the same time period for which Embraer Jets have already been signed for. possible 4 by 2010.
Additonal IL 76’s MKI to be signed for, 6 no’s reported.
Massive Helo upgradation with weaponised ALH’s, LCH’s and the recently upgraded Mi 25’s. ALh’s and LCH’s are to even fire aam’s. Not much news yet tho if the new 197 heli order will be weaponised and aam capable. 80 medium lift heli’s on order…possible MI 17 IV’s
Speedy resolution of the 126 MRCA project.
Huge upgrades to the missile fleet from Pythons, to R 77’s, Tunguska’s, Astra Akash, Spyder, Buk, KS172 etc
Radar production with inhouse Ragendra, imported Greenpine and Aerostats.
Upgrades to the transport fleet IL76’s and AN 32’s with the MTA to begin production from 2008. (personally i love the IL-76’s and wish to (*&&^ that they’d gain the rights to build up these in house)
Aerospace assets with glonass and improved spy sats to be launched soon…cartosat and beyond.
Network centring and C4i command system on progress.
EW on the increase with Tarang, SHiv etc.
Induction of additonal Heron UAV’s and Nishant
IJT orders to complete of 200 -250
Kh-31, Kh-59, KAB-250sNd even forgetting about the naval arm which is to start inducting 16+ Mig 29k’s from next year.
Personally i think it’s mind boggling and i know i’ve left things out. In the holistic view of things….ouch.
I could pick holes but I wont even bother. Alot of the stuff you mentioned has not been confirmed yet, and if I were to produce even HALF the articles showing problems and delays with many of the above it would take up most of this thread. “ouch” indeed….
Whats the point listing equipment that even yoru ACM admits you may not get for another 10-15 years. What sort of fantsay world are you living in?
Your entire govenrment is meeting to discuss how in fact you are actually LOSING conventional superiority. You are claiming its increasing.
Who are we to belive, forum members or the head of Indias armed forces? π
As we know, that issue was solved and PAF are getting full bloodied EW, unfortunately RAF seemed to solve the issue of Indian hype over its air force.
Whats more, this info will be in the public domain very soon, you wont have anywhere to hide then! :dev2:
