Hey Matej, your site is great, would u have any more pics of the Grumman concepts above? I was also looking for more of the Grumman forward swept wing designs.

    Some are here:

    The rest is here:

It is nice to know that apart Jozef Gatial also other Slovaks are in this forum 🙂

I have Stavatti removing in my “what to do” list, but 95 % of my web needs actualization, remake or expand. A lot of work and not enough time.

It seems that it is McDonnell Douglas competitor to Navys Type B V/STOL program (but I am not 100% sure – my opinion is based on used engine system).

Mach 3 fighter revealed by Dassault-Breguet at the Paris Salon in 1969. It was to be powered by two M-53 engines. Thats all I know.

    Hi,

For my personal files I’m looking for some factory designations. I hope some people around here can help me with these.

For instance; I know the F-16 had the General Dynamics model number 401. But did the F-111 also have such a model number?

    Others;

    • McDD/Boeing C-17
    • Sikorsky/Boeing H-66 Comanche
    • Douglas; most military types (like A-1, A-4, B-66, C-124, F4D etc)
    • Fairchild; most post-WWII types; C-119, C-123 etc
    • Grumman; X-29
    • Lockheed; F-22, F-35, F-117, SR-71, U-2, Q-Star
    • McD/McDD; all fighters; F-101, F-15, F-18, F2H Banshee, F3H Demon, etc. (I only know the F-4 was Model 98)
    • Northrop; eg the F-5 was the N156, but what about the B-2 and P-61?
    • Republic; I have once seen the F-105 was the AP63, but what about the other types like P-47, F-84 and F-91?
    • Fairchild/Republic; A-10

    TIA!

    Antheii

All planes have their internal designation. From those you mentioned:

    X-29A is Grumman model 712
First scatch of what become F-22 had designation 090P, basic candidates for YF-22 had designations from 595-6 to 615. Finaly was selected design 631 (or configuration 1131) and that became YF-22A. Production models F-22A are currently manufactured under configuration 645.
Lockheed F-35 began its life as Model 100 ASTOVL, prototypes X-35 were made as model 230 and first operational prototype F-35A is model 240-2. This plane together with Boeing design evolution I have detailed described here: http://www.hitechweb.szm.sk/xjsf3.htm But its in Slovak language so I think, that you will enjoy only pictures.
    SR-71 started as project R or R-12
U-2 early plans were drawn as Lockeed CL-282
For Northrop B-2 was selected alternative configuration N-14
F-111 was known as project G-310
    etc…

I am not going to write here everything, you should find something also by yourself 🙂

Thank you very much for the three-views of the G!
Now I have three-views of ALL Mirages aircrafts, from the III to the 4000… fantastic!!
It’s easy to found pictures of operational aircrafts such as the III, IV F1 and 2000. But the prototypes were very hard to find… 🙂

Are you sure that from all? Do you have also Supermirage and Megamirage?
    🙂

For the time being, this is as close as we’ll get, I guess

And here is the video of MiG 105 Spiral: http://ww.hitechweb.szm.sk/Xtras/MiG105Spiral.mpg

BTW, there were a lot of spacefighter projects since 1950, but none of them was successfull.
http://www.hitechweb.szm.sk/spacefighters.htm I think that we must wait a long time for some that really enter service.

Especially some pages about VTOL planes I made in cooperation with http://www.vstol.org as Slovak language mutation (I think that Breguet planes were also from there). Other planes I completed from my 170 GB archive 🙂

Thanks Matej these pictures are great. They are the first designs I have seen that went up against the A-10 & A-9.
    I love your web site!
Any chance of a larger or more clear picture of the 3-view drawings of the L-1400’s to see more detail ???
I will be visiting this in more detail. Keep up the good work!
Its great, but I can not read it, what language is it mate?

Archibaald I await your scaned picture with great anticipation my friend!
    Thanks guys

    Regards
    Pioneer

I found only these small picture of L-1400 in archive. But if I remember correctly, it was also published in Jay Millers Skunk Works book.

And web is written in Slovak language 🙂

Something from real what-if things. USAF was already testing one F-14 FG-014 as F-15 alternative.

I agree with Signatory. Size of the plane does not have much in common with its sophistication. The fact, that in the past aerospace firms built manned full-scale experimental aircrafts does not mean, that this is the best solution. Only in that time it was nearly impossible to build autonomous unmanned and also scaled down plane to explore advanced aerodynamics, because they didnt have required technologies. The first attempts to do this began in 80s (for example Rockwell HiMAT). And the last important thing – pilotless unmanned demonstrators (of any type of aircraft) are much much much cheaper.

Barracuda is really old project. I had the first infos sometime around 1997.

Matej your site is beatiful but i have many problems navigating it and opening pages (i use mozilla firefox)

At the past I used VML that Firefox does not support 🙁 I am remaking it continuously but it need a lot of time. Because of that I am posting images directly where it is possible. This answer contains a lot of them and it was easier to post a direct link.

If you think Su-27LL/PS Ploskoje Soplo, I have pics here: http://www.hitechweb.szm.sk/fightersSF01b.htm

I really expect that PAK FA will be Su-47 like. It is not definitive true, because it is based only on unofficial sources, but the chance of that is bigger than F-22 like unproven designs. The same situation was with flying wings Tu-202 and Myasischev M-67 LK-M. Russians realized, that they do not have any relevant experience with them and because that they were abadoned.

And why not to use flat nozzle? Because it weights more and can vectore output air only in one axis. Model on my drawing use two AL-41F engines with full TVC. For example Su-30MKI had engines, that can move only in one axis (diagonal – V shape), but the flight computer can manage them with effects like with full TVC.
