When People like Quaddafi are in power against the wish of his own people and killing them. Sovereignty and Sovereign Air Space means nothing.

I hope NATO intervenes soon. As for the Russians making a fuzz about all this. South Ossetia anyone !

How I wish if they do it under UN flag, Russians Chinese NATO all involved.

I hope NATO will NOT intervene, because that would ‘prove’ to the entire muslim world that we will always attack muslims and we set up the whole democratic movement in the arabian world. Let them handle it themself. Support them, but do not get in an active role. That’ll be MUCH better in the long term (although I’m pretty sure some muslims will begin complaining that the lives of muslims are not worth anything to NATO, or they would have come to help).

Lt Nelly Speerstra was the first pilot in the RNLAF (KLu) that earned her fighter pilots wings, but she failed to quallify for her operational course.
So did the daughter of Maj-Gen Macko, who had pushed very hard to get his daughter (who was really too small) in an F-16.

Manja Block was the first fully combat ready female fighter pilot in NATO and the first female pilot to get fully qualified on the F-16A. She flew combat missions in the former Yugoslavia between 1993 and 1995. She dropped dumb bombs on a moving tank during the fall of Srebrenica and hit it. She later became a qualified weapons instructor at Leeuwarden Air Base. After she married another F-16 pilot and had her first baby she left for Transavia.

Captain Manja Blok with Defence minister Verhoeven and general Ben Droste (CinC-RNLAF) during Deny-Flight

Since we’ve had several female fighter pilots (at least in training) but if I recall correctly the RNLAF stopped actively looking for female fighter pilots after an accident that killed two (civilian) pilots after a mid-air collision over the south of the Netherlands.
Susanne Kraak-Schoenmaker is a qualified female pilot in command of 334Sqn at Eindhoven. We also have many female pilots on all helicopters, C-130, Fokker-50, Gulfstream, PC-7 and KDC-10

More on this here for those interested
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/mar/03/gaddafi-forces-capture-dutch-marines

Wonder if NATO will prove just what a toothless shambles it really is.

Why would it? The Netherlands Navy Lynx was operating within the sovereign airspace of another country without proper permission. If Lybia was operating a military helicopter in UK air space without proper clearance it would be forced to land and it’s crew would be detained too.

BTW: I’m missing the RNLAF Hercules that picked up citizens from Tripoli last week in the list.

    Hi,

Some more can be read here: http://www.nederlandseluchtvaart.nl/forums/f13-fokker/dc-3-bomber-fokker-9155/

    Best regards,

    Mathieu.

Looks like Fokker intended to build a ‘DC-2 Spooky’ before the USAF thought of the concept! 😀

I was bored today, so I opted to take a small country, and add all their airfields (safe for the international airport). I think I have Malta complete now. 🙂

When you do get to East Europe and the Baltic state have a look at AiX/Overseas Airfields/Airfields of Europe …on about 3 pages back you’ll find downloadable KMZ (Google Earth ) files for the Baltic States ,Poland,Czech, Slovak and some Russian fields that I placed there .

Thanks, I will certainly do that!

If you ever come to the point in covering Estonia: During our holiday (2010) I visited the once very, very secret Raadi Airbase north of Tartu and took some pictures there. Some runway pics and some of the old revetments. Also the Control tower.

PM me your email and I can mail them to you if you like.

    Tillerman.

That would be great, thank you. PM is on i’s way 🙂

Re France – you need to have a look at the Anciens Aerodromes website , altho’ right now the site seems to be having problems.
    http://www.anciens-aerodromes.org/

Ah, thanks, that will be a helpful one. 🙂

No – just locations where at some time during the last 200 years or so, intrepid and often foolhardy aviators have leapt fearlessly into the air!…in other words …Aerodromes both land and water, airfields, airstrips, private strips, helipads, heliports, balloon sites and airship sites.

With the exclusion of helipads and balloon sites (there are simply too many) that is about my list of interest. I might add them at a later time, but for now I think I have my hands full with the ‘restricted’ list I’m working on already. 🙂

How soon is your list for France coming onto your website?

I plan to begin on France by March. I know I will not have Germany complete by then, but my aim is not completeness yet. I just want to make an enjoyable site.

Are you looking for any specific area? At the moment I just have some airfields along the Belgian border in my sights.

Aeronautical, does that include radar and air defense missile sites? Because unless there once was an airfield on to the site, I have no intention to inclode those. Still, over 1000 is double the amount I thought I would see in the UK. Oh well, that’ll keep me off the streets for a while 😉

I still don’t have any clue about the other European countries. Would France for instance come in at about the same amount of Germany? They’re roughly equal in size and military history over the past 100 years or so.

I don’t think the Dutch were displeased with the Hunters, they even took a full squadron to Netherlands New Guinea between 1960 and 1962 as a defense from Sukarno’s Indonesia. But both Belgium and the Netherlands were offered the F-104G, which were much more suited to the nucleair strike role in central Europe, and in the case of the Netherlands the Air Defense tasks over the North Sea. It was the sixties, the Cold War was soaring. We could afford them (although some were MDAP-funded), and we felt we needed them.

Yes I would be very interested in a English version !! That would be very nice of you. I’ve plan to do it but I think I’m not enough “fluent” to translate it. Maybe you can help me?
