an interesting source on Chinese Flankers
Like what? Mig21 body and F5 wings?
Is this a joke? Thunder is the only combat jet that utilizes bump air intakes at the moment with the possible exception of J-10B. Its aerodynamics profile is more advanced than that of Super Hornet. I don’t see F-5 having large LERX, do you? MiG-21’s body is nowhere near Thunder’s body with the latter’s beautifully sculpted contemporary lines and curves.

Proof?
Or more fantasies?
PL-12 isn’t faster than R-77, nice try though.
oops, R-77 is actually faster than PL-12. my mistake. must have been confused with something else. 😮
How many J-11BS have been spotted so far?
Su-30MKK/MK2 are upgraded to J-11BS standard equipped with Type 1474 radars, WS-10 series engines, much better glass cockpits, and with R-77 replaced by the much faster PL-12.
You mean Thunder makes a competitor for the Gripen right?
Since the JF-17 followed many years later, and so far has zero exports aside from the intended operator.
Thunder came years later, true, but it incorporates recent advances in aerodynamic designs and technologies that Gripen does not have. Examples include bump air intakes, MAWS, more advanced EW active cancellation, better weaponry etc. Gripen’s export numbers about matches Thunder’s export numbers. South Africa, Hungary, Czech, Thailand, none of them are even close to 1st world countries. 😀 Pakistani is an export customer of Thunder just as Canada is a projected export partner of F-35. Neither country was involved in the actual development of the said aircraft.
Interesting that Sweden is so technologically advanced with a population of less than 9 million 😮 Gripen does indeed make a worthy competitor for Thunder 😎
And therefore less powerful than the SAAB/Ericsson radar in Gripen A & no more advanced
less powerful? how so?
SAAB constructed the fuselage of the Neuron.
Neuron?
Thunder Block 1’s KLJ-7 radar, seems to me to be in the class of RC-400 which is a smaller RDY.
JH-7 is in the generation of F-4 and F-111. It is being phased out by J-11BS.
And what prevents NG from using RAM?
cost would be one thing. another thing would be availability. does Sweden make RAM?
Since they are totally suprised and impressed by J/H-7’s A2A performance, so they then pit J/H-7 against some 4th generation fighters,
It’s JH-7 not J/H-7. It’s not dual role. It’s bomber with a secondary air to air capability. The latest of the H series: H-6K God of War.

combat radius 3,500 km or 2,200 mi carrying CJ-10A cruise missiles which have a range of about 3,000 km giving it total striking radius of about 6,500 km

Interestingly, the export designation of H-6K is BC-1 or Bomber chu ko (Export) – 1
But it still is BVR-capable and can launch BVR and launch-and-forget type AAMs which give them some chance against 4th Generation fighters and a significant advantage against 3rd generation fighters as military excerises show :diablo:
I’ve never heard of JH-7A being armed with PL-12s. It might have the capability though. JH-7 is essentially a bomber H with secondary air to air J. It is in the same series as H-5 and H-6.
Yes we are all from the Great Rift valley. We are all Kenyan (or Tanzanian?) – we are all related to Barak Obama!:D
Noah was far from being black. I wonder how much drag is reduced by using DSI rather than traditional intakes
1.) How does one fall if the other falls? Neither is going to fall, so moot question, but seriously…?
2.) Same race? Same culture? Wat
3.) I don’t disagree that as neighbors there is massive potential for cooperation.
4.) One could just as easily ask, where are the new Chinese engines, radars, etc promised for the Thunder. As it stands, its an ok economy aircraft, but fails to stand out in pretty much anything.
ok. It has DSI. :p
1. Why not? China and Russia have the same adversaries.
2. Same race, different habitat.
4. KLJ-7 is the same technological level as APG-68(V)9 and APG-63(V)1, an AESA to equip the Block 2 version. WS-13A also equips Block 2.
Block 2 also has vastly increased number of weapons load and combat radius.
F-35 was not in India’s MRCA competition either. Methinks the price tag being too much.
When internationally mandated Russian peacekeepers were attacked, China did not as much as say a word of support. That is the value of the alliance, minimal.
I will repeat, Russia will not step in, in any military fashion, if China is attacked by anyone, unless it has potential to gain from the conflict. There is nothing for Russia to gain from aiding China in a struggle with a neighbor, and it sure as hell ain’t giving military aid vs the US.
China and Russia depend on each other. If one falls, the other will fall. Plus, Chinese and Russians are the same race and culture and deserve to have each other’s backs. Back to the topic, where is Gripen NG to compete with Thunder???
