There are 6 IIR cameras located around the F-35 called EODAS.

The helmet tracks where his head is pointing and displays the appropriate view in the HMD.

Sort of like Apache’s system then. Cool 😉 This assumes that the pilot’s body does not move and only his head moves? Else the camera’s direction won’t align with the direction of the pilot’s face? No, that program is long dead.

How does IR image from the tail side of F-35 get displayed on the HMD? I assume the pilot has a frontal field of view on the HMD :confused:

If Canada drops out of the F-35 program, I think we would go super bug. As much as I prefer the eurocanards to the F/A-18E/F, there is no way we would even think about the JF-17. Besides we have most of our equipment along US standards for commonality…

Good point. Canada doesn’t always use American equipment. Leopard 1 and 2 tanks are cases in point 🙂 back on the topic. it looks like Gripen NG’s combat radius is only a bit less than that of JF-17 which is currently near twice that of Gripen’s

The 360 IR data can still be displayed in the HDD (Heads-Down Display), the backup helmet will provide legacy NVG usage, and VSI is already working on the fixes to bring the original helmet back.

anyone know if F-35 IRST has laser rangefinding capability? no good knowing the direction of a target without knowing how far away it is
