Pathe newsreel of the Implacable’s demise. Painful:
More on Lytham – yes, there was a glider. It was hanging from the roof.
You can see it in one of this chap’s pix – scroll down to July 18th
The only military Herald users were Jordan and Malaysia. None sold or registered in Argentina, Peru or Austria, either military or civil.
Yes, it’s the Motive Power Museum at Lytham. It opened around 1967, I remember visting and having a ride on the steam train!
The Vampire and Provost were the only aircraft I remember, though there was an excellent large-scale BOAC Comet 1 model in the entrance hall.
It closed in the early 80s, but many of the exhibits remained in the building. It even reopened for a while about 10 years ago, though I think it’s now an engineering works. At least one steam locomotive remains on site.
Here’s the Nantes Connie last summer, now much more accessible…

Might be worth having a once-over on the spelling and grammar of the application. Planning jobsworths can be sticklers for this sort of thing. The phrase “countries heritage” for example (should be country’s heritage). Also all those inverted commas round every term are distracting, and imply sarcasm.
The motorway intersection is not a UK-type design. We’d have just stuck a roundabout over the junction. Suggests Europe, especially France, where there were few roundabouts in the ’60s (if any).
What a shame that Canada couldn’t have drummed up the relatively small amount required to save the last example of the biggest aircraft ever made in Canada, the CC-106 Yukon at Guyaquil. Not as glamorous as a Mosquito, I guess.
Mackerel, any chance you could actually mention what type of aircraft this is in your initial post? Not everyone has encyclopaedic knowledge of every aircraft serial.
Thanks
>>it will probably be retored to fly and end up in a flying accident in the UK, like the blenheim,or the last flying mosquito.<<
Cheap shot.
>>Link broken at post 41 – ENSIGN.<<
No it wasn’t.
The car was a Standard Vanguard.
There was also a Standard Ensign
😉
The BEA Ford Thames van (Anglia) mentioned in this thread is for sale on Ebay right now. Not cheap, but immaculate condition and it would be nice to see it bought by someone who will keep it in BEA colours.
Used to see Autair ones at Blackpool when I was very young. Still remember the clouds of smoke when they started up.
I’ve also got a copy of the flight manual… rather more manuals have survived than aircraft, it seems.
Last time I saw a picture of the Duxford Ambassador it had been partially repainted into Dan-Air colours. Is this still the plan, or are you going for BEA now? Is there an ETA for the finished resto?
The complete aircraft was recovered. A much-covered story. Google it.
Would be nice if one of the wing sections could be used on Duxford’s Hermes.
