Surely that would be a rather pointless repetition of an identical scheme worn by the Trident parked next to it.
G-AVMU never appeared in “red square” BEA. I think only the first three aircraft did – VMH, VMI and VMJ. The others came in Union Jack – or rather a version of it without the logo, for joint BEA/AF Berlin ops, with “Super One-eleven” on the tail.
Looks like the Herald is going back into the horrible Air UK livery. A real shame – would have loved to see the Orange tail of BIA once again!
748 production until 1984-5, then ATP replaced it.

A photo of one of the Japanese Marathons on the roof of Nagoya terminal, supposedly from 1974.
Suspect this one is gone, but the other was at a theme park that still exists.
Wroughton Connie was shipped via Fleetwood docks and roaded to Wroughton.
I’d love to see the DAS and Science Museum Collections form the basis of a National Museum of Air Travel – reflecting the history of how the public has flown. Represent all aspects of air travel from Rapides through to Concordes. They have many of the right types already. A Carvair would be a nice addition…
Potentially flyable Beaufighter at Duxford too.
The Duxford B-29 flew in, of course, and has been under cover most of the time. Wonder how solid the airframe is?
Superb project – really look forward to seeing it finished!
It’s in exactly the same condition as it was in 1982. Still has the airline interior, same paint etc. It’s hangared, and in good condition. I don’t think it would be difficult to get it flying again – and certainly that seems to be KW’s plan, from the large lake on the FoF site.
The plan is to restore/recreate it as a Lufthansa airliner, not as a Luftwaffe patrol aircraft. I think the wing display slide shows an interim plan to display the completed wing while they work on the rest of it. The aerial shot of the recovered items shows what they have – half a fuselage, no nose, both wings, four engines and the basic tail empennage.
Breguet Atlantic and Transall c-160 both use Tynes.

Surely in the 80s you’d have been able to see Strathallan/Scampton/BBMF/Duxford/Hendon?
This project might have a better chance of success if it were more ambitious – with a real target, such as the nearly-complete Mosquito in New Zealand. Buying a tangible Mosquito for the nation might get bigger contributions flowing – rather like the Vulcan – rather than trying a scractchbuild/dataplate job which will take many years to complete.
Just my 2p.
Definitely very dark blue on the F-27s – almost black. I worked on the BIA rebrand in the late 70s. That used chocolate brown as well as orange. When BIA returned as a charter airline it used 1-11-400s and then MD-80s. Never DC-9s.
It’s definitely Gatwick. The coach is Belgian, but the other coach is Harrington Cavalier-bodied, and very British!
Nothing to stop a Belgian coach crossing the channel in 1968!
Information about the C-119 here
Were the NEAM Valetta wings scrapped? The undercarriage certainly wasn’t – it’s been donated to a group in Germany restoring the ex-Schlumpf collection Viking. Certainly if you were making a flying replica, what would be the harm in having Valetta wings? It would look the part – even though it would be incorrect. The Elvington Halifax has Hastings wings – and they’re not quite 100% correct. But it looks good – certainly the best we’ll have unless the RAF museum does a full resto on its Halfax- which in any case is a different marque, with Merlins.
