It happened. I got the details from the pilots and the Rockwell guys….

I imagine more details may be forthcoming when certain people retire from Lockheed…;)

Report states the aircraft was recovered with the lever in the U/C Down detent, yet the report also states the pilot said he selected gear down, THEN flaps….

I have the name of this American somewhere, however Argentina was also subject to an American arms-embargo during the war (but not because of it) and Argentina were critically short of spares for their A-4 fleet; a shortage of spares that was solved after the war (and possibly during it) by spares supplied by Israel.

Lockheed in Palmdale have the contract to look after Argie A4’s these days. Sometimes see Argie pilots about town.

But my luck really kicked in with Hangar 2. Just when I thought I had run out of new angles on ‘Snafu’, I was offered the chance of a closer inspection. After a lengthy climb, I found myself at the rarified altitude of the P-47 office.

To quote a friend who has flown one: “I’d like this is combat, if anyone starts shooting at me I can just unstrap from the seat & run around the cockpit dodging the bullets” 😎

At 1.21 that looks like Yoder power hammer in front of the red car…The boat at 1.42 has MTB lines…There’s a Frost English Wheel in the shed behind the red car at 1.57..

I’d like to have a poke about that place with cash in hand…

Regarding the cars in the TFC car park, any decent car you see parked outside will belong to members of the CAA, NOT the TFC engineers, whose cars are as follows:

Clapped out 12 year old Volvo V70.
Audi A4 with nearly 200,000 miles on the clock
A rusty Ford Fiesta
A £400 VW Golf
and 10 year old Mondeo

& back in the day….A Rover/Vought hybrid.. 😀

I personally think any `stories` about pilots getting airborne at AK,and `turning before the Tower` are B/S.

Three of us have stated it so far. You are free to think whatever you choose…

We all must have seen the poor fitter taking a fuel shower whilst manfully trying to hold up the fuel tank panel he is removing (but had forgotten to check tank was defuelled first !):D

How about a battery acid shower?

Laying under a Staggerwing, removing a panel & some blithering idiot had thought it a good idea to mount the spill bottle on the inside of the panel.. & when the panel comes lose it tips at an angle spilling all the acid out the breather tube. I saw it *JUST* in time & turned my head to the side so I didn’t get a face full of it, Right sleeve & most of the shoulder of my tshirt on that shirt disintegrated.

Tool box needs bit of tinbashing, this is after I used 2 cans of oven cleaner on it…

The top needs some bashing/shrinking…
