Better idea! Go to French AF and Aeronavale airshows. No attempt to rip you off with inflated entrance prices and a very good show to boot.

The worse one I’ve ever been to is Camarillo in California last year. HUGE gaps in the program, NO aero at all, it basically consisted of a few planes flying past every 5 minutes for half an hour, then a 15-30 minute *gap* followed by more planes flying by every 5 minutes for another half hour.
The only saving grace was 2 P38s in the circuit & event then it took about 10 minutes for those 2 to formate…
At the end there was a pisspoor attempt at a “balbo”.. which occurred about 3 minutes before the FAA shut down the show & reopened the field to GA traffic

It’s been parked on the ground for quite some time now, how much of the Winter mantainence/inspectiosn etc has been accomplished or are they waiting until the end of May before starting it. Are they currently standing around with their collective thumbs up their keesters like they did last year?

    Hi,
I am in a similar position to nashio, but im looking at the uni route in aerospace engineering, however ive opted to do a foundation degree at the moment then i can go from there (as civil engineering is having a growing interest as its not so specific)
    Any thoughts?

Mechanical Engineers design weapons…. Civil Engineers design targets..;)

When I worked there the adult trainees were so much better to work with compared to your average apprentice because they wanted to learn, and wanted to be there.

Same is pretty much true of any *mature* students in college. I often take classes at the local CC just for the hell of it & my grades now are damn near straight A’s which is a vast improvement over what I got in school….

….apart from metal & wood shop obviously because I wanted to be in those classes when I was a kid…(altho there were a bit surprised/horrified to find out the model of a cannon from HMS Victory with a 3ft barrel was capable of firing snooker balls quite some distance..)

Is there any official fallout of this thread? Searched google but couldn’t find any more up to date info. Is the wreckage in the US the real deal?

    C6

According to the FAA it is….But given the way Izthaki (sp?) swapped parts between different aircraft it’s possible that both contain parts of the original & neither are 100%…It would seem that both parties have parts from the time it spent in Israel.
*Some* P51’s have the serial # stamped on the longerons, but apparently that depends on where they were built.

Was out in the garage about 20 minutes ago conducting some beating/straightening & TIGgery pokery on a P51 header tank when there was the most godawful noise. Brain went through the “is the Tig blowing up? is it an earthquake, WTF is that racket??” process..

It was a B1 bomber rattling my roof with the burners crackling away at about 500ft.. 🙂

According to the FAA the *more realer* one is the one up near Canada someplace (S Dakota?) & not the one at Chino.

I should say that is the FAA’s “current thinking”….. as there may be an appeal or something else in progress…

There’s an unwritten rule on this thread that scheduled flights, both commercial and military) are not included – otherwise you could stand near any military airfield and be writing all day.

I live near 2 Military airfields & neither of them has ” scheduled flights” as such.. 😉

OK – Good Point! Also, wouldnt they explode at high altitudes? (the ping pong balls – not the legs!)

Don’t tell the terrorists, they know we’re already onto the exploding shoes/undercrackers ploy…

I heard a little story about false limbs and Pilots – Someone said that if you were unfortunate enough to land in “The Drink” it was best to fill the limb with ping pong balls so it acheived a level of bouyancy?

Floating about in the oggin while upside down wouldn’t be condusive to survival.. 😉
