Why paint it without removing the dents etc?
It might even be a Battle of Britain Dambuster Spitfire, of course. Very rare.
naaa, wriong colour, it should be Sky type S duck egg yellow polkadot pink.
A Pemfire? Looks more like a SpitBroke…
Took a look at restorebike.com
Started to get nostalgic about my old Triton.. then spotted that red Enfield & was reminded why I now ride Kaw’s 🙂
Have you ever tried oiling down something the size of a harrier or Shackleton with a silly little spray can of ACF50?? no, I thought not. one can would last one wing! It’s damned expensive. fine for motorcycles and millionaires, not for half a dozen whole air frames a month.
As for the painters, who gives a stuff. How often do such aiframes ever get a total repaint!? By the time it needs a total repaint, it should be taken back to metal anyway. we are talking about non flying outside storage scrap for all intensive purposes, with no budget for fancy paint jobs.
Wind your neck back in. You appear to be having a comprehension issue. I wasn’t addressing the suitability, I was addressing the comment about it’s availability.
I’ve been involved in 5 or 6 total repaints, I assume you’ve done more?
If it is as you say “outside storage scrap” just haul it off the dump & stop pissing about. If you just want some cheap stuff to put on the paint to make it look shiny/better use Mop N Glow floor wax. Cheap as chips & can be applied with a mop from a bucket.
The crucial thing about shuttle landings though isn’t the length of runway, although an important consideration, the other is its runway orientation. The orbiter has to re-enter at a certain degree from a pre-planned orbit, and due to being an expensive glider, doesn’t have the same positioning capability ad a powered aircraft. There are many orientations of runway would necessitate an impossible re-entry trajectory.
Considering the twists & turns the Shuttle does to slow down on approach to landing I think it could pretty much line up with any runway. I was at the local racetrack a couple of years back & it passed right over me on the way into Edwards. The boom from a shuttle approach is WAAAY louder than the usual (almost daily) booms we get from the fast guys messing about at the base.
You really don’t want to be inside a big metal building when it goes over..
Wonder where it would have landed….a 5 mile strip on Salisbury Plain I suppose?
Doesn’t need 5 miles, they used to talk about landing it in Palmdale right here in town when it needed work but never actually did it.
Hasn’t the shuttle, in theory, already made quite a number of world tours – although I’ll admit, probably slightly difficult to see without a telescope!!!
FB
You can see it easily without a telescope as it goes over. I’ve even seen it pacing the ISS.
despite what all the doom mongers say, there is nothing wrong with using WD40 at all. PX24 is not readily available from retailers, neither is ACF50.
Just about every motorcycle shop in the nation sells ACF50.
If, at some point down the road, the airframe goes for a repaint expect some interesting conversations with the painter after he finds out someone used engine oil to “make it look good”
There are better ways of accomplising the look without resorting to WD40, which is basically worthless crap in a can.
I’d start with a good wash with a decent automotive soap, Mequiars springs to mind. Then look at their range of Marine & RV products to find something to protect & enchance the look of the aircraft.
Start here:

These guys are good & will respond to any questions you have. I’ve seen something they sell that takes off the black streaks etc on RV/Caravans
I was just bustin’ ya chops, it read like they had done all the work on all 3 aircraft in only 7 weeks 😉
ARCO’s third completed project this year
😮 They’re done 3 aircraft in only 7 weeks?
:diablo:

Gas is faster for Al than Tig.. 😉
Frost still make the good wheels.
Ever use a Henrob torch set up? It’s the dogs danglies for gas welding Al 🙂
Go troll somewhere else.
