someone I used to work with went to work with a German outfit that were developing them… not sure how far they got or if they’re still in business.. cant be bothered to google at the moment.. 😉

Zeppelin? There was an article in PM about 2 years ago that there were back in the blimp biz.

Apparently just 20 C141Cs with the reserves at Wright Patterson left…And they are due to go next year.

Former neighbor of mine was a flight instructor on one of the lake carriers. Also read that there are still at least 150 aircraft down there, USN alone lost 140+ Corsairs, Hellcats, Bearcats, Wildcats, SNJ’s, Stearmans, N3N’s etc etc etc

This Wildcat is one of the aircraft pulled out of the Great Lakes (mental-block as to which one :p – please tell me, anyone who might know!!) over the last few years. It’s the only one I’ve seen that does not have folding wings, being designed for land-based op’s (according to the display board).

Steven Craig’s Wildcat is also painted in O’Hare’s scheme, it also came out of the same lake (Michigan) & has the none folding wings. It flies out of Van Nuys, Ca & also some place back in Kansas. The Craig Wildcat has a lot of the original paint on it (inside the fuselage, cockpit etc). That lake is so cold it really preserved the airframes.

erm… that ISN’T Craig’s Wildcat is it??? :confused: :confused:

Ya seen the tug used by RareBear at Reno? it has a former Top Fuel V8 engine…. Only tug I’ve seen with a drag chute… :dev2:

I would like to remind everyone, if you are ever in the Dayton, Ohio, area stop by the USAF Museum, it is stunning and it is FREE.

And ALL of the firearms on display work, Me & Pete did some M2 .50’s & the pair .30’s on the twin mount for em….

After the Van Nuys PR paint job, why did the USAF museum paint it completely again?

Because some anorak at Dayton looked at some WWII photo & decided the star & bar was 1 inch lower than it should have been…. when it fact we’d measured it from other WWII pics so it was a total waste of time.
They also insisted on Egyptian linen for the tail feathers so that will be rotting away nicely now, instead of S**** which would have been perfect & looked exactly the same.

(…and it had nose art on the left engine cowl that had Pete’s daughters name on it…) 🙂

They don’t pay for their resto’s they trade other airframes. That Spit resto cost em a Huey & 2 T28’s…

The left over PR blue paint (Dupont Centari) went to Chino & ended up on a Spit there….

(apparently I can’t post the name of the synthetic fabric, it starts with st & ends with its…)

There was one years ago where some guy was a tad lost in some Cessna. he gets vectored away from London & his parting comment was “thanks, am now passing Blackwater”
To which ATC responded: You are advised to see a Doctor”
