So, any truth to the rumour they were lost by the understudy for the part of Tinman in the stage version of Wizard of Oz? :diablo:

I may not know you, ZRX61, but I do know you are smart enough to know what that means in military terms. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Indeed. Everything around here is pretty much Flight Test out of either Plant 42 or Edwards AFB so there’s not much *routine* patrol or training stuff etc:)

Altho the KC135 doing circuits & bumps today falls into the “routine/scheduled* stuff

    AND! remember this:
Those who possess real knowledge are rare.

Those who can set that knowledge into motion in the physical world are rarer still.

The few who possess real knowledge and can set it into motion of their own hands are the rarest of all.

“As the result, at the end of this week, I may need to recommend to the Board of Trustees that we give one month’s notice to all VTST employees with effect from 1st February.”

Just how low can Dr. Pleming go? It’s moved on from threatening the end of 558 if people don’t donate more to this. The threat that a failure to reach the required level of donations is ending people’s livelihoods.

Quite frankly, (unless the people actually working on the aircraft are forbidden to see the website containing the begging) anyone with half an ounce of common sense should have been sending out CV’s 2 years ago..

I think when considering if an artifact is a bit ghoulish and not suitable to save or display one needs to fast forward 500 years and look at it from their perspective.
Its a good job the tower of london’s artifacts were saved for us to enjoy.

Indeed, theres a church(?) someplace in the UK where the main door has some poor ******s hide stuck to it….

Presumably the only skill required today is the persuasive skill to persuade someone or rather some people to find Β£800,000 plus and then when that’s done a whole lot more. I write as a rather disillusioned Supporter and a donator, but one whose purse is nearly empty.

Apparently they are short a few experienced blaggers. I worked on that Bob Geldoff clusterF back in the 80’s building specialist Landies for use in Sudan. We were ALWAYS short of one thing or another. I finally got PO’d waiting for stuff so I started blagging the stuff we needed. At one point we were held up waiting for diesels engines which we were supoosed to get *at cost*. Ten minutes on the phone got them donated for free AND included a new engine plus a spare for the former Electricity Board Bedford 4×4 like those used by the Army, (but with a crew cab).
The people who were supposed to be getting the stuff for us spent most of their time on the phone begging/pleading for what we needed. I merely called up the places & told them to “stop pissing about & give us the damn stuff”. It worked.

I don’t think anyone has any problem whatsoever with the engineers, volunteers etc. No-one has a problem with the grass root supporters, some of whom have donated extraordinary amounts. Rather, it is the management that are to blame. And for the management then to lay the blame entirely on the people who have supported them most is incredibly insulting. If the project is to be a failure, it is a failure of management and management alone.

    Pretty much nailed it.

er, no. Beachside airshows are usually *free” as you can’t really fence off & charge admission to the seafront etc, so a lot of those punters never paid a penny to see it. πŸ˜‰

Yes I think you might find that as redundant airfields get converted for housing etc, plans will be submitted for alternative use of some of the established ‘harder to demolish buildings’.

Similar to the way railway arches are used in London etc.. πŸ™‚

I spent part of my day contorted like a pretzel while grinding/cutting/shaping/enlarging 3 holes in a DC2 instrument panel so we can fit new fuel guages…oh fun…

    No pics.. yet..

That is sad news ,it will go where most of the money is , to the USA ,just like Grumpy,Tigercat, P47 ,and many others

    Terry

The Tigercat is back in it’s old hangar…I was working on it just this week.

In late 1944, Grumman at Bethpage, NY, began production of the Grumman F7F-3 Tigercat. In addition to the single seat fighter variant, two additional variants were called for by the Navy, the Grumman F7F-3P Tigercat (photo-recon) and the Grumman F7F-3N Tigercat (night-fighter). To expedite production all aircraft were completed as F7F-3s at Grumman Bethpage, NY. Subsequently, the Ps and Ns were accepted at Grumman and ferried to the Navy Lockheed Service Center in Van Nuys, CA, where they were completed for final delivery to operating units.

    From here:

That’s the hangar it’s in right now, next to the DC3. & across from the DC2.

Sure it’s the Jan issue with the Vulcan on the cover and not Feb?
I’ve had my Jan issue for about a month.

Yup, Jan issue with the Vulcan on the cover. Picked it up at Barnes & Noble this morning, it wasn’t there yesterday.
