Hi Matt
As an ex CI, the Cadet ACP does cover some marshalling signals and techniques, however there used to be an Air Diagram that covered the most common signals to be used. Have a word with Cottesmore APFS to see if they can ident it for you.

Being located on an RAF station and therefore subject to there H&S, I got our instruments surveyed, suffice it to say that we have more ‘hot’ items on our main instrument panel than RAF Wyton, Henlow and Brampron combined (and that includes the PFF museum).
However, we’ve followed the JSP (Joint Service procedure to the letter) and have a spill kit and segregate our stored items from general access. How we tackle the subject when we get to incorporate them into the cockpit is a matter for later on. Generally speaking, unless you’re going to break into the instruments for maintenance or sleep with them next to you, I’m fairly relaxed about the issue. Just treat them with respect

Slightly misquoted the JSP in my last response although it does cover ionising radiation. Anyway for your review and enjoyment here’s the link to JSP 392 Leaflet 31 which specifically covers RadHaz in relation to museums

Tied in to the associated Veterans day thread, the Project is now more mobile thanks to the kind assistance of the PFF Museum and RAF personnel. this allows us to more readily move exhibits like the turret and instrument panels. Also it allows the public to get up close and personal with the exhibits, like the young chap in the turret:)
I’m amazed at how much progress seems to have been made in a relatively short time. Have you got a team of elves secreted away somewhere Cees?

Hi Paul
The sticktop for a GR3 came from redundant F2 Tornados IIRC. Haven’t you got a GR1 sticktop……..?
John
Hi Paul
Are you sure that Evereatts haven’t got a GR1 control column? As we’ve discussed before, the GR1b (precursor to GR3) was intro’d under a Service Engineered Mod, so I’d be surprised if the Control Column couldn’t be reverse engineered.
Is there anyone out there who used to be at St Athan and would have c/o the SEM who could elaborate?
John
Alles klar!
Best of luck mate, I’ll keep an eye out for one for you

Bristol Beaufighter, see link
Whilst people are busy looking through their archives for photos of other Chippies, anyone come across one of WP927? And before anyone asks I have looked/asked everywhere else i can think of:p
There must be one out there….please, pretty please:D

I think it worth mentioning that we have been temporarily excluded from our workshop at wyton as they found some additional items above and beyond what was on our Radhaz register during an external audit. It would appear that the majority of the extra stuff is found in some crash relics which had been missed by the authorities when they did their initial survey.
We are working together with the MOD on assessing this and to be honest they seem fairly relaxed about it, they just want to know what’s there and how it is to be dealt with. The instruments do not seem to be a major concern to them provided they are not broken. I would refer you to my post on the thread mentioned above as it gives the MOD position wrt radiation hazards in Museums hosted on their units. Like anything, provided you treat these with respect they can be handled safely, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there will be major changes over the coming years

Virtually every RAF aircraft I worked on was a museum piece LOL:diablo:
