    Morning all

Apologies for lack of posts over the last few weeks but we’ve been moving some of the larger items such as the jig to the new workshop and prepping for connecting power and water. We also had a portacabin delivered last Friday; after all what’s a mancave without a warm refuge for tea, nattering and maybe a little work lol.

Anyway, yesterday was a bit more normal with myself, Graham and Jacob at the current workshop. Jacob was finishing off the last of the bomb beam plates and Graham was packing up some of the items we don’t currently need.

I spent the day assembling the 1st light bomb beam together, all this needs now is the electrical connector bracket finishing and adding to the structure. I’m sure you’ll agree that it looks the part next to our original heavy bomb beam…

    Cheers

Back from hols and had a productive half day at the workshop yesterday.

All of the solid rivets are now installed in the #2 light bomb beam, and now it’s a case of assembling the major sub assemblies together. First of which was the 2 crutch adjuster mechanisms which are fully working.

    More next weekend

Only half a day today at the workshop as I was on  my own  with others on holiday or busy preparing the new workshop. The new place is slowly coming together and with any luck we’ll be in by Xmas….

So today was spent riveting the doublers on to the 1st light bomb beam. There are sooo many parts to each of these and apologies if this seems to have been a bit repetitive of late. We’ve tried to use as many original parts as possible, but most of the sheet metal work has had to be made as the originals were too badly corroded. Luckily however, we’ve been able to recover some of the original ident and mod plates from BK716 so we have that link to the original aircraft

No update next week unfortunately as myself and the long suffering Mrs 12jaguar are off on our hols for a week

    Cheers

    Morning all

1st a bit of news from last weekend where we were invited to a Pathfinder commemoration in Gravely village which finished off with a Flypast from PA474. A bug thanks to the organisers for making us most welcome.

This week I received a commemorative plaque from the municipality of Almere in recognition of our help in remembering BK716, the QR code takes you straight to the eMagazine for the crew and the aircraft.

Finally, this weekend was a mix of hosting some visitors and recovering/making new parts. Ann and Mark from the RAF Downham Market museum came to visit and collect some parts from BK716 that had been previously organised by the RNLAF. Downham Market was where BK716 was based for its fateful last flight. It was great to meet them and we hope to have a reciprocal visit.

Whilst I cracked on with making Bomb Station 2 (centre line between Frames 7 and 8), Graham was recovering usable parts of structure, Cliff was recovering parts from the control systems, Jacob was making more bomb beam parts and Dave K was busy cleaning them all up in the blaster.

Yesterday saw just myself and Graham at the workshop, but we had a productive day nonetheless. First job was removing the remains of a Small Bomb Container from on of the pieces of bomb bay wreckage. This allowed us more access to that part of the bay and made it more manageable to lug around the workshop. With this done we cracked on with our respective tasks.

Graham is continuing the good work of reclaiming usable parts from BK716, with more top hat stiffeners, bolts and angles being added to the pile. Everything we save means less to make and adds authenticity to the build.

Meanwhile, I made a start on a job I’d been putting off for a while; the making of the bomb beam jig. This is essential as we have a further 5 to make and they need to be accurate. The start of this was delayed slightly due to a knackered bearing in the band saw which has now been rectified. Using the original beam as a guide, I’ve made 2 stops th sit the beams between, once bolted the base this sets the distance between the frames. Unfortunately I ran out of time to start drilling and pinning the various parts but it’s all clamped together ready for drilling next weekend

    Morning all

No work progress this weekend as rain stopped play, people were otherwise engaged and I needed a bit of a break

However, I can relate that the 2nd episode of our Project update has been uploaded to YouTube by Jacob. This one goes into some of the techniques we’re using to fabricate frames including the myserious art of joggling LOL

If you can like and subscribe that would be great

    till next

    Thanks TA

Move should be around Oct/Nov this year as there’s some work needed to make the building suitable, but I’ll keep you all posted

    Hi Geoff

Thanks for the kind words. The items at Stafford are not under control of the RAF unfortunately; that responsibility resides with RAFM. At this stage, the fuselage relics at Stafford are not much use to us as we’ve been over them with a fine tooth comb and the structure we’ve recovered from BK716 is more than adequate for our needs. The centre section from LK488 is on display at Hendon I believe, and there’s no reason why our section couldn’t be displayed alongside that although that won’t be for some time yet…

    BR
