A quick post Christmas update. Here’s the nearly completed control column stop and shroud assy (just waiting for some witches hat section to complete it). The one on the left (P1) incorporates the stop assy recovered from Stirling N3654. Work is progressing on the seat raising structure (casting patterns and bellcranks) hopefully with some pictures after Saturday.
Hi Cees
Shame that you’re only over for such a short time; as you could have popped up to us to see how the Stirling parts have been put to good use 😀
John
😮 Apologies for the omission John – I still cannot find you in my own photos! 😮
If you get me the image over I’ll have it added to the album later this afternoon.
If you can PM me your email address in the next hour before I finish work, I’ll reply back to you with the attachment if that’s ok
John
Here’s a pic of our display and I’ll pop one on an email to you

Ok TO, where am I then?:diablo:
To be honest Cees, without those items we wouldn’t be able to do half what we’ve been doing. They’ve been invaluable 😎
How’s the rest of the recovery going?
John
Another item identified from BK710 which will be drawn up for inclusion in the cockpit build. This is the pulley support for the aileron controls which is situated in the Bomb Aimers compartment. With any luck we should be able to re-use the bolt that secures both pulleys 🙂

Next thing will be an ex Nigerian Air Force Stirling!:D
Wow! Put me down for two!:D:diablo:

Hi Rob
can’t take any credit for the recovery myself as I wimped out having just recovered from an operation:o
I think it took the guys a month to thaw out!:diablo:

Hi Jerry
No problem, it’s a busy time of year. Let me know when you can make it over and we’ll get the kettle boiled 😀

Recovery of LJ628
Just uploaded to our YouTube site; here’s some footage of the recovery of Stirling LJ628 that took place in January 2005. As can be seen the weather conditions weren’t great 😮

Not progress as such to report, but we’re currently working on getting both seat supports fitted. This involves machining up some new castings to support the rollers themselves plus some special bolts to attach the rollers to the castings. Like with most projects we’ve accumulated quite a few items over the years and looking through our spares bin I found two original rollers and one of the special bolts. These came from the SEBRO site and although they haven’t got provenance they are definitely Stirling and will be incorporated into the build.
The photo below shows the bolt and rollers plus the remains of the elevator bellcrank from under the P1 seat that was donated to us by CeBro. This gives us the dimensions of the crank plus an original flying control cable shackle 😎
John
Look forward to seeing your progress on this one 🙂
