P.S. Hell has anyone told the Argentina that between say 2009 and 2015, they might have a green light for a Falklands War MkII (Ha ha!!!!)

whatever happens in the next 6-7 years to the royal navy or the rest of the armed forces they are still much more than a match for Argie’s forces who have deteriorated on a much greater scale than the British forces have over the last 25years or so

This is something akin to a perpetual motion machine, isn’t it?

Even if it did work, what would be the practical application?

not really there is still energy lost through air resistance etc, this is just generated again, perpetual motion machine has 100% efficiency.

the concept may well hold water but i would question it’s stability

Expeditionary warfare is a trap for those like yourself who think conventional nation vs nation conflicts will never take place again, a most unwise mentality to have to say the least.

single nation v single nation is VERY unlikely to occour in the forseeable future, you do not make provisions for what cannot be forseen but improvise if that becomes a reality

edit: also to make my position clear, i’m not a fan of the F-35 to say the least (can’t help it, i’m only british:lol:) and it’s no secret that it doesnt fit perfectly in with australia’s requirements, however looking to the future and not the past it seems to be the best option.

Ontop of this Australia has already stumped up some funds for the programme, and by the late 2010’s F-22’s may well be in the 200m AUD bracket, ontop of costs to clear Australian weapons for use on the aircraft and other costs and it’s not viable.

Well, sorry to bump up this topic, but reading this got me thinking. The “digital camo” on warships which can be seen on a lot of littoral combat craft nowadays seems to be descending directly from WWI & WWII “Dazzle Painting”

i must admit i was thinking of the belfast and the dazzle camo scheme while looking at/reading this thread.

Good, anybody who uses the phrase ‘Chinaman’ is not welcome anyway and the loss of your racist attitude will be to the benefit of us all. Of course the real reason for your departure is your inability to provide any support for your assertions that the UK needs a massive increase in its defence budget.

haha, thats being a little pedantic isnt it? Increasing numbers of people are blissfully unaware that chinaman is an old slur as it’s not in common usage anymore and by namesake it appears to hold no racist connotations.

    Dear Members,

Again, that old British saying “A battalion today, is better than a division a month from now.” In any situation other than going up against a US CVN a deGaulle is still a good bet.

    Jack E. Hammond

    .

the battalion in a week is provided by the Invincibles so the addage doesn’t apply

and as has previously been said if the political will had been there the QE could have entered service in 2012. perhaps earlier

can’t say that i approve of the idea of a british CdeG (or 2) cost seems to be the biggest problem, IIRC CdeG cost 3bn EUR, (which is more than 2bn GBP before you start with inflation and british procurement price hikes) and in the current fiscal climate well…

this has happened to me, neighbours cat became senile and started crapping anywhere(she told us to squirt it with a water pistol if it started to crap in our garden) and i caught it when i was washing the car, gave it a blast with the pressure washer(it was at a safe distance) i also accidentally strafed the missus who didn’t find it as funny as i did. I’ve got 3 German shepherds, the sodding cat was lucky it didn’t try and **** in the back garden.

Agreed, but how would the cake be sliced? RN + booties 2% RAF 2% percies 2% all equal slices of a max 6% (would prefer 8 another 2 for the booties) RN oldest= mostest. size army first. Even with separate budgets the thems will still have more than the us and the us will always need more.

looking a bit high there for peacetime, it’s been a while since the defence budget tipped 6% (for contrast the figures i have available to me are: 1982 – 5.8%, 1991 – 4.4%, 2007 2.2%)

for just sitting around the house with 2.2% is enough, once the politicians start playing about using our troops are pawns in their games (ie:Iraq) coupled with our assistance to nations that need it(IE: Afghanistan) and the kit starts falling apart 2.5-2.8% is probably closer to the mark.

btw: you start giving a quarter of the defence budget on the bootnecks and you’ll end up with USMC with british accents, they’d have their own armour, their own artillery, they wouldn’t belong to the RN like marines should. (if you want to create a fantasy RM remake 41,44,46,47,48 Commando’s [one of the RM units maintains 4-3’s colours and honours cant remember which one 539 or FPGRM i think]built BPT upto a squadron and other magic stuff (: )

Exactly. Typhoon is obsolete and a dead end in development.
Rafale is far superior, as is F-15K, MiG-35, everything above SU-30, F-35, F-22.

The Typhoon in unreliable, expensive to buy and operate, has a legacy radar system, lacks range and AG capability.

Look at the RAF, they would love to trade in their Typhoons for half the number of F-35.

thats a nice balanced argument based on facts well worth reading…

i would question whether half of this lot aren’t qualified to make any judgement on this topic whatsoever.
