The two islands on the QEs have a very small ‘deck footprint’ and if a single island design had been chosen, the same amount of deck space would have bee used. The need to channel the exhaust ducts for the GTs to that single island would have impacted on internal volume, otherwise the ‘Japanese’ idea of separating the funnels from the island might have become the only option. The Invincibles do have large funnels, but the actual exhausts for the GTs are similar in size to those on comparable carriers

Is this worthwhile consideration if(when) the carriers are configured for CTOL air operations as the forward island prevents the forward catapult being moved to the starboard edge therefore take off will always interfere with landing ops no matter what catapult the aircraft is launched from?

Also has anyone any ideas regarding numbers for CVA-01, her cruiser escort and T82? I’ve often read that the plan was for 3 CVAs (1 to replace Vicky, the Ark and Eagle in that order), I would have assumed that a helicopter cruiser would have replaced the tigers but what about the commando carriers?

I was under the impression that Nuclear power wouldn’t even be considered, not only because of conflicting policies but also public opinion?

I’ve seen a lot of people talk on forums about mission bays on C2s but AFAIK it’s always been destined for C1, there’s stuff on Navy Matters about it dating back several years.

Everything on Navy Matters dates back several years, the webmaster has obviously become clinically depressed with the status quo…

Stern ramp, mission bay, twin hangar oh dear, has this been torn directly from page two of “Cancelling defence projects 101”?

Rather see size 8 -10-12 🙂 sorry chaps 16 is on the big scale in my eyes. 🙂

At size 16 you’d have to use the big scales, the little ones would break…

on a more serious note at 5’10 you could possibly get away with a 14, but 16 is a few portions of pie and chips too many for a beauty contest.

    Fleet is coming along nicely!

    B737-800 1
    B787-8 4
    B757-300 2
    B737-500 4
    B767-200 17
    BAe ATP 1
    B707 1
    Dassault Mercure 10

I bought a couple of 787s too early, so I built up a handful of 767s, now might be a better time for dreamliners…

No, Ryan, we have got enough nutters over here, couldn’t legally let them loose with guns, we’ve seen what your nutters do with them over there.
    Baz

Unfortunately, we’ve seen what the nutters this side of the pond do with them aswell. Dunblane, Hungerford; those are the reasons we’re no longer alowed to own pistols and rifles.

Buy 767 200’s, bring in loads of money for an under 7 mil Aircraft, then save up and buy 787s.

I almost bought A321’s unti I saw these a while ago, not buying anything else until I can afford 787-8s, I have 3 atm.

Fuel crisis is indeed annoying, I woke up in the early hours this morning for a quick slash and booted up the laptop to send off my flights and managed to catch the fuel at $400 so I bought 4.5M lbs.. down to 3.7m already :s

and as for the advertising on monday morning around 1am the most expensive advertising was $5,000/day, so everything has adverts now!
