one thing puzzles me regarding Venator, i thought we had already established that while a single CAMM would fit in A35 quadpacked CAMM would need A43

hypothetically if RN adopt Venator as a baseline for C.3 Sylver cells (wether A43 or A35) would be ommited among other things, FFBNW just don’t mention it, politico’s have a field day when they hear that phrase

for C.3 think of something closer to the BMT Venator but blatantly cheaper

    – The F 15 SE DEW suite (based on F 35 one) is better than EF DASS;
    – The SE will carry the same Tiger Eye IR/optical suite (long range IRST-AAS 42 + Sniper) as the SK or Singapore F 15s already do.
    – The EF “comprehensive sophisticated communication systems” is the US manufactured MIDS Link 16;

And I assume you can prove that the crappy C(R)APTOR “is capable of detecting the SE without being detected” …

The SE would have a combat radius of ~720 Nmiles without EFT (about the same radius of an EF with 3 EFTs) so it won’t need EFTs . And an F 15 SE without EFT will do better than an EF with 2 EFTs. If that F 15 has P&W229 or GE 129, yes it does.

well if SE ever reaches production which i doubt, this is going the same way as F20, which is a shame; it’ll be mid teens. By which time Tiffy WILL be sporting CAESAR, possibly EJ230 but probably not CFTs (which would add about 2,400kg/3,000l) but the point is even if it isn’t CFTs could be knocked up fairly quickly for any prospective customer

Well, these radars could be delayed or reduced in capability for some unforeseen reason, and no matter what they will have significantly smaller arrays.

could be, defence spending could increase in the next 5 years, it could but it’s not going to. Unless there are major reasons for the remote possibilities they are considered negligable.

to be honest i think C1 will be Type 26, C2 type 83 and C3 shouldn’t get a type number so politicians don’t get the wrong idea.

btw type 15 has already been and gone and T26-33 haven’t

So how come Singapore and S Korea bought F-15s when they could have had Tiffies. Do they know something you don’t? I am sure they researched the aircraft first hand.

What about Typhoons avionics make it better than an AESA equipped F-15? What does the Typhoon have to offer to counter the F-15’s ability to use its radar without being detected by Typhoon. That is what an AESA radar can do if it has LPI capability. Tell me about this performance at subsonic an supersonic speeds. What does it do better? All published performance parameters are pretty similar. Same approximate ceiling, pretty much the same rate of climb. F-15 has a bit higher t/w ratio and the Tiffy has a bit better wing loading. Nothing here that is earth shattering.

I am really interested in the growth potential part. Care to fill me in on how you think Typhoon has greater growth potential?

Hmm F-15SE which isn’t even going to get off the ground until next year at the earliest.. lets compare it to something that first flew over 15 years ago. better than that lets compare it to the inital production units that lack the bells and whistles that they will have before this aircraft can even reach production!!

your logic is flawless i’ll grant you that!

Tiffy, Gripen and Rafale are all expected to have AESA by 2012-13, there is no reason why this would be delayed.

you seem to be stuck in the mindset of what you see now is what you’re stuck with and then continue to use that as a benchmark on what other projects/aircraft might be able to do in 10 years time.

That is where I have to disagree. You are not getting VLO, you are not getting internal carriage, you are not getting tactically significant super cruise, and you are not getting an AESA unless it gets funded with additional money.

Supercruise… only if you sign up to lockheeds “we’ll redfine it so we can say only our product can manage it” does the Tiffy not have the capabilties, and again something that will improve if EJ230 becomes a reality; there is no reason why CAESAR wont be ready in time for T3 aircraft, no VLO but the aircraft is half the price of an F-22.. (you judge what an aircraft costs on what it would cost to buy another not previous purchases adding R&D/fixed production costs)

If the upgrades don’t get done then what? You have lots of half developed fighters that will in no way be suitable for front line combat in the coming years.

If the upgrades don’t come with T3 then they will be part of a mid-life upgrade AESA is nailed down, EJ230 is a possibility, (hoping for EJ270 would be pissing into the breeze IMO, time between overhauls would be significantly reduced)

Hmmm see above….. But I agree they are not going to fund upgrades because they will not have money to do so after they buy T3. What should have happened (again like what is planned for the Raptor) is to take some of the money saved by not buying T3 and use it to develop and fund the procurement (yes I know the development has been partially funded) of an AESA radar, accelerate Meteor missile integration and bring all the T1 and T2 Tiffies up to T3 standard.

You seem to be under the influence that Eurofighter nations are £3.78 from filling from bankruptcy, if upgades are ommited from T3 because of delays they will form part of an MLU in the late teens early 20’s

Let’s get one thing straight, ALL media is biased. For or against it’s all biased. Second all large defence contractors will use incentives and get as close to the boundries of the law to swing a deal while still staying dry themselves (even if that means that the 3rd party breaks the law).

Wow, I´m shocked! I guess you believe they would have chosen the Rafale otherwise?

Don´t worry, Romania can´t afford the Gripen anyway. Maybe a dozen of used F-16s.

And they could afford the T22s? BAe ripped them off more than they do to HMGOV; something to be proud of!

Snob! 😀 Dated a girl from Much Hadham, wouldn’t go back again.

the one place in the country where you feel poor on £55k and you have to drive 8 miles for a decent curry (Ware) on the + side though none local kids are potential dole scroungers with 1 or 2 exceptions

Ah well there you have the “Garden City” Class, whole different breed of ship, a slightly older and slightly less chavvy warship than your “New Town” Class, but only just. Letchworth would be the lead ship. (A town which was built without a single pub or bar by the way).

I woud suggest equipping both with some sort of car burning device and maybe a rapid firing giro gun.

with UUV’s that look distinctly like tesco’s trolleys and some description of underwater neon thingies

Lived most of my life just up the road in Stanstead Abbotts, I was the only child of three not born in Harlow Hospital.

You could of gone for a hattrick and added Waltham Cross; AKA the ghetto of East Herts.

Personally I think most of the names for the RN fleet in future should come from old Capital ships and cruisers they had all the best names anyway it would be a shame never to use them again.

Haha, I’ve spent most my life living in most of East Herts; Wareside, Stanstead Abbotts, Much Hadham; I’ve lived in Cheshunt for a while but i’ve always gone with the District council and refered to it as Broxbourne (the same with Waltham cross)

Moved to Geordieland when i quit my job at Stanstead Airport

btw HMS Welwyn Garden City would be better than sodding Waltham Cross (whether or not you can count it as a new town or not is another matter…)

The ‘E’ class has already been assigned (Survey ships Echo and Enterprise), so next wil logically be the ‘F’ class (Formidable?) and ‘G’ class (Glorious? Gallant?). As for the D class names, just be thankful they didn’t name one of them Dainty!

or Duchess/Diana…or Doris personally the only name i dont like is Daring it’s a bit too close to Darling for my liking… whats wrong with Devastation, Decoy, Defiance, Danae?

As for C1 they have to be a new battle class: Armada, Cadiz, Camperdown, Trafalgar, Finisterre, Ramillies, Saintes, Vigo

C.2 either S or T and i’ve made a big list (obviously there is going to be some overlap from swiftsures and trafalgars but when C2 makes an appearance they’ll be long gone)
(Tempest, Thrasher, Turbulent, Talisman, Thistle, Trident, Triumph, Templar, Trespasser, Thor, Tiger, Talent, Triton, Temeraire)
(Sabre, Sapphire, Sceptre, Scimitar, Seawolf, Sentinel, Spearfish, Spirit, Spiteful, Storm, Superb, Supreme, Suprise, Sovereign)

Vanguard Reaplcement.. C (Churchill, Conquorer, Centurion, Courageous)
    Astute 5,6 & 7 Amphion, Atremis & Apollo

btw add flirt and flora to the list of F’s that shouldn’t make a return

edit: nobody knows how hard it was not to make a joke about butter

I have been very suprised that Dreadnought has not been chosen as a name for D-Class destroyers.

IMO Dreadnought should only be used on a platform that is revolutionary or marks a new age in naval warfare

    that can’t be genuine surely?

whatever China would pay for plans and tools to build B-2’s the debt releif would only be a **** in the ocean compared to what would be required.

Perhaps it’s scaremongering? Joe public are more likely to accept a tax increase without moaning if selling such “secrets” to the Chinese is the alternative.
