Thanks Brian, must make the 2 hour drive up the A1 when the days get longer. TwinOtter – do they have toasted teacakes in the cafe ?
Moggy, I’ve been thinking along those lines for a while now, nice to know there are other people pondering the same. If it can ever happen it would be fascinating – Dornier X anyone ?
Diverting from the main topic (apologies) what are those 3 helios stored behind that building ? I was tempted to think Whirlwind or Wessex but I’m not so sure.
Why was the Ashton at Hatfield? I can find no reference to it being used as a test bed for DH engines, although it was certainly used for others. I remember the Sperrin flying around the St. Albans area, but have no recollection of seeing the Ashton.
Two Chinooks over W.G.C. this evening 18.45/48 (about 3 minutes apart) both heading SW.
Harvard over W.G.C. twice this morning – presumably there and back again. Returned flying S.W. at 15.25 hrs, accompanied by Lysander, which I assume to be the recently flown ARC example. Also late a.m. spotted C130 flying W. at reasonably low level – they are a bit unusual around here.
Spitfire over Welwyn G.C. heading S.W. at 15.42hrs, followed 5 minutes later by T6 type.
Cheers Olly, it was a bit too far away for me to I.D. the undercarriage. And talking of things too far away I’ve just spent 10 minutes watching a Spitfire display over Burnham Green Village Day. Said village is over 2 miles from W.G.C. and I couldn’t I.D. the particular aircraft, but it will be one from John Romain’s stable (local lad). Perhaps I may find out later when the day’s pix appear on the Duxford thread.
Westland Wasp/Scout type over W.G.C. 14.42hrs, heading Easterly direction
Fascinating shots Brian. Very rarely do you see shots that wide without some degree of distortion. Do you compose using the rear screen or the EVF ? The structure of the Trafalgar Square shot reminds me somewhat of Lowry, with the strong urban panorama to the rear peopled by smallish figures to the fore. I reckon the guy with the guitar is basking, not busking.
Quickly retrieves coat, exits stage left…..
I see the ‘spotters’ over on UKAR chose the occasion to badmouth the forum and the mods in particular.
The Catalina mentioned as being over Amersham earlier flew over Welwyn Garden at about 1200` and 80 mph – it was certainly not in a hurry.
DC6 over W.G.C. heading E of South, 15.55hrs.
Flying Bulls B25 over W.G.C. 09.40 hrs. heading in a WSW direction.
Thank you, Sir, and all your comrades.
