Or like the guy that made a perfect force landing on a road.
When the plane was fixed he tried to take off again and hit a tree.
That’s a double bummer for sure.

Other Bond memorabilia up for auction Wednesday included a helicopter piloted by Bond girl Pussy Galore in “Goldfinger”

Which one is that?

When the TV series was first shown the Imperial War Museum Lambeth had a `Colditz` display.
Dummies were created for some of the actors namely David McCallum.
When the display was over they kept the McCallum dummy and used it around the museum.
I can remember as a kid hunting the `McCallum` dummy. McCallum as the Naval Officer, McCallum as the Nazi General.
When the museum was renovated the dummy dissapeared. I wonder if they still have him in the basement somewhere?

We have a cultural problem with killing, or possibly the visibility of killing that people find distasteful. Take a rifle into the forest and kill a Deer and everyone brands that person inhuman. Yet the majority of us eat meat, wear meat products or are responsible indirectly for the deaths of 10’s of thousands of animals each year (milk and eggs for example). The difference is that a ham sandwich is so far removed from the act of killing that we find it acceptable.

What annoys me are people who state they are vegetarian and eat fish. Or complain about fox hunting and wear leather.

Have not seen this photo. before yesterday! I know where and what do you?

It’s such a small picture.
Looks like a Harvard buzzing a Spitfire?
Would guess at Gary Neuman at Weald or Biggin?
Then again it’s probably a lot older, ww2 etc.

I’ve been reading about 800 NAS Harrier operations in Afganistan.
The primary mission of which is responding to a TIC (troops in contact) where speed on target is paramount.
The Harrier can halve the time taken by the A10 from scramble to Target.
While the A10 may be more capable once on target it is just too slow.

The remake of House of Wax is pretty good if only to see Paris Hilton get a scaffold pole through the bonce.

Although not a classic `Horror` Dead Snow does features Nazi Zombies and an MG42 on a Skidoo.

The Ring and Ring II, some would say Marmite Horror movies, are pretty good and often scary / disturbing.

My favourite for a long while is a Japanese film called `The Eye` about a group of soldiers in Vietnam. If you can put up with the subtitles it’s an interesting and skilful film.

Then there is `Outpost` featuring yet more SS Zombies.

Botched is strange and funny for all the wrong reasons while Cottage is a good old British comedy with everyone getting hacked to pieces but in humorous ways.

However if you want an excellent movie with shades of the old horror movie with modern overtones that flits between 1930’s and the present then `Ghost Ship` is a good choice.

Now, if you want a British horror featuring Squaddies and the SAS doing battle with Ware Wolves how about `Dog Soldiers`.

Nearly forgot the Tooth Fairy, very scary that one.

I could go on…. 🙂

Spitfire PR XI PL965, sold and restored to airworthiness but destroyed in a fatal crash in 2001 (being rebuilt?)

http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1000932/

Can only imagine the Hurricane would be Z7015, still resident, but I never saw it wear a Watts prop when visiting Old Warden back then. Could it be the angle of the photo making the 3 blade appear as a 2 blade?

http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1000716/

It could have been the angle, but did look like a two bladed prop. Aircraft looked to be painted silver, hard to tell in B&W but not camo.

Why an AT6 though why not a Cessna or Beech Baron?

Presumably that’s the famous `Spitfire trailing smoke captured from the nose of a German bomber` you see in a lot of old war news reels, World at War etc.

Looks like the airshow is changing from a family day out to a more corporate show I would guess like Farnborough.

I wonder if this will have a positive effect on other airshows?
I certainly would consider replacing Biggin (in my personal airshow calendar) with another venue if the new display is not of interest.

Would the Luftwaffe have been able to destroy the RAF even if it kept bombing the airfields in the south? Bearing in mind a Spit or Hurricane can fly from any flat grass surface so what if Hitler destroyed all the airfields. Just pull back, allow the Germans to expend all their effort hitting the airfields and then redeploy once the invasion starts.
