My favourite Sci-Fi craft is Captain Nemo’s Nautilus, from Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues. Something which at its time WAS science fiction, even if it isn’t today. But it isn’t the camp, atomic version that looks like a fish from the Disney film I like, but the one described in the book.

I’d also have to go with FireFlash from Thunderbirds, as I love its lines.

The guy in the charity shop I was in earlier, who bought a wonderful, pristine 1958 Longines wristwatch in running order for £25. ONE THAT I’D RESERVED. Went to the bank, took the money out, went back, and was greeted with “Sorry, sir, someone who did have the money bought it after you’d left”. I THOUGHT THE WHOLE POINT OF RESERVING IT WAS THAT IT WAS PUT ASIDE FOR ME, NOT SOME OTHER GUY! 😡

She was completed, launched, and accepted into the navy in ’43, yes, but the article I read said they started building her in 1942.

    I know

The “Christina”. I believe it was built by Canadian-Vickers in 1942. Used to be known as HMCS Stormont. There was an article a while back in a yachting magazine that I read, which gave all her particulars.

    Money can’t buy one taste

As seen in that video. Not only is it ugly, but it is as vulgar as hell. If I could have a yacht, I’d find an Edwardian steam yacht, and restore it. Failing that, I’d have a 1930s racer, in teak and mahogany, with gleaming, polished brass fittings, and flapping sails. Now all I need is that lottery win…

It makes a change from people blaming Gordon Brown for volcanoes, I suppose. 🙂

    Or even Thatcher…
