I’d heard Capt. Brown was in Hospital following a fall. This is very sad – a true British Hero. R.I.P.
“Angels one Five”, I think.
I think it was the “Halfway Farm Motel” (http://www.halfway-farm-motel.co.uk) that provided accommodation for visiting families to RAF Swinderby. This is the same side of the A46 as the “Dovecote” (“Halfway House” as it used to be), but on the Newark side of the new roundabout. I can’t recall the Halfway House, or Dovecote, providing accommodation – but could be wrong!
Like other posters, I’m sure the Motel owners choked on their breakfast when RAF Swinderby closed, but they seem to do OK these days with the Antique Fairs etc.

Hello Joe,
Must have been a great sight seeing the replica Vimy fly!!
From what I hear, the Vulcan IS due to fly at Farnborough on Saturday AND at Dunsfold.
Makes me wish I lived “Darn Sarff”!

Have faith, Bert, have faith!

Hi Vulcan 558,
Waddo was certainly “full” on the Saturday. SWMBO and me originally arrived at the A15 entrance by car, but were “waved-off”. Being reasonably local (about 10 miles away), we returned home, got the motorycle out and tried again successfully, and they didn’t even want to see our tickets!
The local rag (dodgy reporting a speciality!) reported Saturday attendance as 125,000 – with average over the past few years of 90,000. IF this is to be believed, is the difference “The Vulcan Effect”?

‘558 “from the Harmston end”
Sorry TJ,
Just realised I’ve made a pig’s ear of my last post. Got back in the early hours from a busy day yesterday at my eldest Son’s wedding (so missed the takeoff!). My Band played at the evening bash, so I was well and truly kna**ered this morning, and when I saw your post, assumed the pics to be from Thursday -WRONG!!
As an aside, one of No1 Son’s “Good Luck Charms” on his wedding day was a blown Nav Light Bulb from ‘558 replaced just last week – he’s nearly as mad as his Dad where Vulcans are concerned!
GREAT pics nontheless, and THANKS again!

Hi Tj,
So THAT’S why you disappeared from the Waddo WAVE (with your tailgate up!).
BRILLIANT shots, as always!
Thanks.

Return of XH558
As you say, Bert, WELL DONE to Taff, Pat and EVERYONE involved in this ground-breaking project!
TRU problem caused by a corroded fuse terminal – quickly fixed – just hope that it doesn’t need a Marshall’s bloke to travel up from Cambridge to “sign it off” again!
‘558 is expected to fly again approx. 10.30 am tomorrow (Thursday) with a quick crew-change mid-day-ish – hopefully for more Pilot Display Authorisations.
Looks like Bacon Butties at the Waddington WAVE will be in short supply again!

EXCELLENT Photos – as usual – TJ!
Thanks for sharing them with us.

Al McDicken, NOT Mike Pollitt – Sorry!!
Looks like 2.30pm today (Tuesday).

Vulcan XH558 Pilots
I think that the “other two” Pilots wanting DA will be Martin Withers and Mike Pollitt. Martin flew with Dave Thomas on Saturday. Mike was certainly there on Saturday, but I’m unsure who “co-piloted” on Sunday for the fast taxi.
The local press (in Lincoln) reported Waddo Saturday attendance as 125,000 – this against an average attendance over the past few years (including some “excellent weather” occasions) of 95,000. Does the extra 30,000 (at, was it, £16 each?) represent “The Vulcan Effect”?
In any event – a fine achievement by all concerned.

Dodgy Alternator on No 3 Engine – a fairly “quick fix” I’m told – so Fairford should be OK

‘558 At WADDO
Originally went to Waddo in the Car – very poor weather forecast – but unable to get-in!
Now THAT’S what’s called “Vulcan Power”! I don’t think Waddo has EVER been “Full Up” before!
Went back home, put on full foul-weather gear, got the motorcycle out, and tried again – success!
The spontaneous applause at the end of the Vulcan’s display said it all. Us Brits are DYING for something to be proud-of, and at Waddo this afternoon at least, XH558 provided it! PITY our Politicians can’t be as successful!
Three cheers, and well done, to everyone involved in bringing this Cold War icon back to airshows.

Paul
