FS2004 has code to run multiple views I’m sure, however I don’t know about LOMAC. My problem was I saw LOMAC running on a friends machine, thought it looked fantastic and rushed out to buy it. Got it home and realised the true difference between my GeForce4800 and his ATI 9800 PRO 🙁

Anyway I’ve got myself a Hercules 9800 PRO now, which is overclocked to almost XT speeds! 🙂 So now I can run it with all the effects switched on at 1280×960 (my monitor won’t go higher 🙁 ) I always expect more from my PC than it can actually manage.

Always thought about it but could never be sure I’d have the time to commit.

Saitek make some good sticks, unfortunatly nothing like the sidewinder which is a corker! It really depends on wether the force feedback was important to you.

Saitek’s top o the range bit of kit is HOTAS system, I think called the X45 now, I had the AT version the X36. It was a great stick, nice and steady fluid movement, the stick was nice and heavy with large base, so it supported itself well. More buttons than you know what to do with as well! I purchased mine in 1999 and its still going strong. Unfortunatly I can’t use the HOTAS system to its full potential any more though cos not all the data will go across the AT connection anymore, something to do with XP. Anyway I digress, its a really good stick, the X45 version is USB, so no compatibilty problems with XP.

Saitek are also re-releasing it with more functions and an electronic display on the throttle, it will be released in October this year for around £150. If you’re feeling extra plush you could always look at the CH stable of products, which are very well made, and if you want to push the boat well and truly out purchase the Cougar, a marveolus aluminium stick fashioned on the F16s flight stick and throttle.

    Hope this helps.

They can be run from the same machine, esp if you have a card with dual vga outputs, not sure about two cards in one machine, I guess you could do that if you ran one AGP one PCI. But that said there aren’t many PCI cards around now.

You don’t need a beast of a machine to run periphal views though because you don’t have to have the detail level as high, so an average machine can run both side views at lower res etc. Some really hard core simmers then use another machine and monitor to run the instrument panel!

Would be nice but my study is big enough to even contemplate it.

That link doesn’t work, although could be that their server is down. The closest I’ve got to anything like this is the FStraffic addon, which is pretty good.

Thats really my issue as well, space, although the lack of 2 extra monitors doesn’t help 😀

Imagine a 3 TFT display!!!!! One down, only 2 to go, at least I have a spare machine to run the other two views.

I guess the latest PR release was to spark public interest for more fund raising. The way they have worded the release would make the whole project seem quite plausible and not too far away, which would rally the public into funding the project. You see they would have to match the lottery funding, i am not sure of all the details but the Herritage Fund doesn’t just give money away(?), you also have to raise sometimes upto half of the funds, the Fund then match it. Hence the release to chivvy people along. It may not seem like a giant step forward but to most it would boost morale at least.

I personally would like to see the Vulcan in the air again, last time I saw it was at Finningley when I was knee high to a grass hopper.

I’ve always found sims to be poor in relating the speed of aircraft on take-off. Perhaps its a limitation of the simulation experience with just one monitor in front of you. I should try hooking up more than one monitor at some point.

gmax from discreet is the best IMO.

I’ve started a few projects but have never finished as of yet, perhaps over the next few weeks I’ll get a few finished, not like there’s any football to watch now 😡 😡

Nice to see a flight sim forum here at last!!

Lock-On was initially riddled with bugs, not helped with the rushed Chrimbo release on UBI’s part.

However there have been two patches so far which have dealt with most of these issues. Lock-On is a good game and was unfairly dogged by its entry into the retail market by the, in my opinion too early release.

The patches are available from http://www.lo-mac.com

IMHO Lock-On is the best modern sim around at the moment overall, one thing I would say though is that you’ll need a ninja PC to get the most out of it. I had to buy a new graphics card to get some decent frame rates.

I’ll post some screen shots over the weekend if I get time.

I’d go for the XBox, more powerful and there are some corking games out there.

In fact I’ve been pondering about purchasing one myself. Halo looks the mutz nutz, and its probably almost 18 months old!
