I’d say it’s from a Consolidated tail turret.

At one time Zwick’s Island was a landfill. I’m not sure about the area immediately surrounding the Sabre, but there have been issues with methane gas. The concrete piers supporting the lights on the nearby soccer fields have taken on a rusty colour.

Could this possibly be accelerating the corrosion?

The Sabre at Zwick’s Island in Belleville was repainted late 80’s or early 90’s. I’m not sure what work has been done since.

Hi Elliott,

The turret is looking great!

I got a little sidelined, but I haven’t forgotten about the Palmer valve box details I was working out for you. I plan to jump back onto that little project soon.

Hi Cees,

There isn’t too much progress to report here……

The Berry Boys have acquired a Boly centre turret. In terms of parts it’s about 3/4 complete. Boly fuselages seem to be easy to locate, but the turret parts seem to be a different story! Probably another case of post-war scavenging by farmers in need of hydraulic components.

My FN121 project has been idle for a while. I’m still busy collecting and preparing drawings of parts required for another 121 project.

An economizer cover for a FN121 turret and a seat for a Bristol centre turret.
