    Hi James,

The plate could be turret related, but perhaps a field modification?

The FN120/121 was equipped with a 15 x 14 X 3/8″ armour plate in front of the gunners knees and a loose (optional?) panel that fit under the gunner’s seat cushion.

A have attached a few views of the seat. It’s under 16″ wide.

The other part is an ammo feed mechanism from a FN120/121.

    Regards,

    Hi James,

    From the FN121 AP:

There are two notches in the circular centre opening that align with stationary base of the rotating service joint. I imagine the ammunition ducts & the hydraulic lines from the external rotation valve did their part to keep the floor from rotating with the turret.

The servo feed unit is a system within the turret. I’m quite sure that it was not a feature of the FN4.

In the FN20/120 it was powered by hydraulic motor & electric motor in the FN121.

    From the FN121 AP:

The hydraulic & oxygen services enter through the rotating service joint.

    Floor Panel – FN121

The floor remains stationary while the turret rotates about it. The ammunition belt twists unsupported in the turret before it reaches the servo unit.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Ballturret,

Sorry for the delay. Below are some views of the control triggers.

If you require more, please let me know.

There was a removable triangular shin/leg guard each side that shielded the belt somewhat.

Not quite a gun turret – but the sighting/control copula for the remotely operated guns mounted in the rear engine nacelles of the CAC Woomera medium bomber. Photographed at Moorabbin Aviation Musuem – Melbourne, Australia September 2014.

Thanks for sharing Geoff. I’ve never seen one of these.

Thank you, what an amazing piece of engineering to feed the four guns over such a distance and through a rotating turret

What I am really after is in effect a picture of the floor of the turret itself where the ammunition feed enters from underneath. I have nearly given up as I have written to every museum that has a Lancaster in the UK and Canada had no real appreciable response and search as I can there is nothing on the net. I think ultimately I will have to just ‘guess’ how it would have looked

    Thanks again, Ken

Your work is incredible Ken! 🙂

Hopefully these pics we be of some help. These are for the rotating floor of a FN121 turret.

I do apologize for the quality.

I have had this sperry A1-B turret from a B17 Flying Fortress for over twenty five years and this is as far as i have got , surely there must be parts for this turret kicking around?

    Beautiful turret! 🙂

    Nice work Ballturret!

I can’t help you with mystery items, but I can get you pics of the thumb rest & triggers for your grips.

I wish I could be of assistance. I’m not familiar with that type, but it does look interesting!
