I remember reading on the BBC internet site on the run up to the Iraq war that 7th Armoured brigade is normally based in “Bergen, Norway”!!!!! An armoured formation in mountainous Norway??? The prat had obviously read Bergen somewhere, looked it up in an atlas and found the Norwegian town. Or could it be Bergen-Hohne, Germany, where everyone knows the British Army is located?? I sent a quite abusive email saying their defence correspondent wasnt worthy of the name. A few days later, the article changed to state the correct location. Only a couple of days ago I heard reference to a “Warrior Tank” on the news, its pathetic.
Pork loin chops (boneless) with chips and “Italian vegetables” (packet)

Lovely! Lived at Kinloss as a kid, always glad to see pics of the place
Angels one five?
Aviation charts and maps, target maps from WW2, esp Luftwaffe ones of the UK
I can hardly recognize Wildenrath. Looks a ‘bit’ different from those days that I was standing along the fence watching the Phantoms (1 & 92) and Pembrokes (60) with everything else RAF (and other NATO AirForces) visiting.
Its used by Siemens as a test track for trains, seems all the barrack blocks are gone
Makes me think of the gun camera footage of some German farmer on his horse and cart being shot up
There are quite a few fanciful tales also, I remember when I lived at Kinloss various “true life” accounts of Stukas attacking Aberdeen and strafing, plausible to 6 year olds but when a little older is seen as ridiculous. Everyones grandparents had also captured German airmen in the fields!
In the real life accounts, I always doubted the wisdom of wasting defensive ammo in hostile airspace against inconsequential ground targets.
Ah yes, I pondered whether to put Geilenkirchen on or not, but I ended up doing places that were active (RAF) when I lived out there. At that time only the MQs at GKirchen were in Brit hands
I used to have a cat called Shackleton, wanted to call one of our current ones Nimrod, but was overruled!
Only the USMC and possibly RAF/RN version is to be STOVL, the other versions are of a different weight. Automation these days means a second crew member is not neccessarry.
Cestrian, one of your Shack pics is now my wallpaper! Lovely pics
the super constellation thingy? it was the largest aircraft on display, think it was based in Iceland
