heat = thrust, the more heat the more thrust and vice versa,
on top of that, f-16, especially block 70 got more wet area
Just because it has more thrust, doesn’t mean it permanently uses it.
Doesn’t necessarily mean more heat. It will depend on how much drag each aircraft generates in cruise.
Ah ok. My bad. I thought he was speaking of GaN modules based radar. So finally F3R would be the first operational plane fitted with GaN modules for spectra antennas?
It’s in F4 for Rafale 2023/24 (radar and Spectra) according to Henri-Pierre Grolleau in Combat Aircraft.
As far as I can see, F3R is as follows:
The standard R F3 is an evolution of the standard F3 Rafale. It is part of the continuous improvement process of the aircraft as required operational. It will enable Dassault Aviation Rafale to integrate the following equipment and weapons:
- The European air-air missile MBDA Meteor long range. This highly effective missile will be of maximum efficiency with radar-called “active antenna” that the team delivered BURST series since mid-2013 [1] .
- The laser designation pod new generation PDL-NG Thales. Mainly used for the implementation of air-ground strikes, day and night, this pod will further improve the accuracy of which the BURST shown since its first commitments (in 2007 in the Afghan theater).
- The laser terminal guidance version of the AASM armament (AASM) Sagem [2] . This family of main GPS guided weapons and additional propellant is unparalleled. It has enabled the Rafale during operations in Libya (2011), destroy targets to tens of kilometers away, with a metric precision. The laser terminal guidance version is particularly suitable for moving targets.
Furthermore, R F3 will include updates to BURST of sensors and systems that ensure full interoperability.
Kfirs were allegedly POS. A bolt-on solution of integrating an available J79 into the existing Mirage airframe. More power was available but 350+ kg has been added, point of balance has been shifted and the control system was not able to compensate that completely, the thing has lost all that crisp fineness of the original design. Kinda when you take a beautifully balanced Porsche Cayman S and slap a 5.7l HEMI V8 in there..
You mean a little like the Ruf RGT-8? You’d also be surprised how little those LS-series ohv V8s of GM actually weigh.
Both the French and British Navies today fall into the category of nations trying to write cheques they can’t cash (and hoping that nobody calls them out on it), and we all know why that is. Perhaps Italy was fortunate that its foray into empire-building was comparatively brief and disastrous — makes it easier to let go. 😉
I wouldn’t think two 280+m long carriers with 40 F-35s each, combined with 6 Destroyers, 13 Frigates, 7 SSNs and 4 SSBNs constituted a weak navy. In fact, I can only count about 4 navies on the planet that are stronger than that and for at least 2 of those nations, most of the people are living in abject poverty and crapping in the streets across much of the nation.
Where is GaN???
Gripen E EW system but like I said, Gripen E IOC is 5 years off, with all the usual advisory notes on expected date vs actual date.
none of the fighter manufacturers and none of the air forces around the world got your dank meme,
or they’d be flying gliders with possibly an augmenting engine, perhaps electric.
another thing to add is that f-16 generate more heat than gripen at any given speed, so your argument dont hold water any way you spinbehold: the future of air combat
Can you prove an F-16 generates more heat?
Clearly gliders wouldn’t be very stealthy but the focus has clearly shifted away from manoeuvrability, especially with the concept of introducing UCAVs as air combat nodes. TVC had its popularity spell in the ’90s, but now, nobody besides the Russians is even looking at it and the F-22 uses it mainly for drag reduction rather than ACM.
Not that easy since according to you a shot behind the 90° boresight is even worse than a tail chase shot.
Nic
That’s why many have moved from 5 inch to 6.25 inch and even 6.5 inch rockets. But even that isn’t really relevant, because the enemy is going to get hit head-on before the merge.
SwedishF21 Luleå & Norwegian Bodö base has done joint exercises for a very long time well before HMD intro, lots of written sources and gossip around this, above conclusion is valid without HMD too.
Oh without HMD yes, but HMD changed the game. Engineers realised it was easier to make a missile turn than an aircraft and they do it so much better than an aircraft.
kinetic performance will be relevant for as long as weapons are kinetic
Except it isn’t. Increased KE = increased temperature = increased IR signature, which is becoming more and more relevant. And whilst for non-5th gen, kinetic performance can still be important, it is of diminishing value when paired with Meteor anyway and for BVR, it’s mainly straight-line speed and altitude that aids kinetics and the Gripen has no advantage over the F-16 is that field.
How is it inaccurate?
If you care to explain and I’m wrong then I’ll happily concede but Harold did use fear and violence to consolidate power and they are recreating the battle are they not?
As did every leader 950 years ago.
Only the top 40% of households pay any net tax at all…
…everybody else takes out more in benefits and services than they put in.
How do you square that with making ‘the mega-rich actually pay their taxes’?
As for ‘zeroing all deficits’, that is a fantasy surely; are you really saying there is £76billion to be collected from the mega-rich evading tax (or avoiding tax) or from the profits of corporations not paying appropriate taxes?
You may have a point with some (some!) avoidance of corporation tax but you are way off with the amounts; for example Google were only charged an ‘extra’ £1.3billion when stung by the French government for unpaid tax going back ten years, and the the UK only charged them about £300million for the same period!
You can only ever assess such a thing on an average basis. A single 20-30y/o living on their own earning less than £25k per year, would easily make a net contribution.
I talking about the likes of Apple, Google, Starbucks and billionaires who avoid nearly all their tax obligations.
From corporations, sure there is that much, we could easily get more than that simply from the worst 50 offenders.
And that was a token amount considering the quantity they evaded, and was heavily criticised. We’re talking billions per company. There’s actually a significant row between the EU and US over this at the moment because it’s reached such comical proportions.
Well let’s be real, the only country whose internal decision process REALLY maters right now (from the West) is the US. There are lots of rumors that the White House is being presented with options to strike the Syrian government.
Nobody is enforcing a no-fly zone, but I think the possibility of escalation is huge if they start seriously, repeatedly striking and eroding the military of the regime.
I shouldn’t worry about that. A government generally won’t make such a potentially huge decision this close to an election.
The missiles can be carried staggered vertically too to some extent. The missile on the a2a station is already carried sort of below the weapons carried on the a2g station. Even if 6 meteors are not possible, 2 meteors + 4 AMRAAMs or 4 meteors + 2 AMRAAMs might be possible. I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary to carry only meteors. The F-35 can use its meteors for its first frontal attack at long range or for tail chase attacks, when it’s closer it can use the AMRAAMs.
Or 4 Meteors and 2 ASRAAM.:D
norwegian and swedish pilots concur that gripen C out-perform the norwegian f-16 version,
the norwegian version perform better than block 70,
gripen E can be expected to perform better than gripen C, given its higher T/W
….it follows then that gripen E out-perform f-16 block 70 twice
Well is that really relevant given the conversation we’ve just had about HMDs?
Indeed Only HMD & meteor is gripen C now and hope that other western types get beamed links and GaN ew by 2021 too
I know high speed comms is a Radar 2 capability and I thing Rafale is looking at similar.
