yeah, a million cruise missiles pissed away on cellphone towers, totally worth it

Or HARM. Means to an end. Using SAMs against cruise missiles is just as unrewarding in terms of cost exchange. I also suspect the antennae aren’t that cheap and cell phone towers certainly aren’t.

    What of ESM on JDAMs?

What of jamming antennae after hit by cruise missile?

Also the GPS on planes and bombs point up, so I don’t really see how a ground antenna can jam them. After drop, they guide by internal INS.

I didn’t think ships ran on coal anymore.

Yes. But NCTR does not take many variables into account. Good luck with a stealth plane for example.

Browse “Photonics” on google, you’ll get into it quickly.

I thought that was where quantum radars come in, so that you have something exact to compare it too.

    What is this?

What they should have made instead of Eurofighter.

Wind tunnel model of a British Aerospace design meeting the Future Carrier Borne Aircraft (FCBA) and JAST requirements. Fact it’s ‘British Aerospace’ and not ‘BAE SYSTEMS’ indicates pre-99.

So Turkey treats all Kurds as terrorists, western media, silent.

This was possibly the best ever fake sci-fi stealth design.

On a side note I noticed HMS Duncan has had two quad Harpoon launchers fitted when shadowing the ships.

No. Photonic tech relies on physics (micro mechanics).
Photonics also play a role in sensing where, one day, we will be able to determine what type of object is flying (as opposed by simply determining its location and trajectory).

    Doesn’t NCTR do that already?

Yeah, the harrier in flight is fugly (especially the sea harrier)

But the Harrier GR4/9 get a much a higher score in “originality” and “coolness” because it is not a boring design like the su-25

The Su-25 flies like a brick though. It shakes above 800kph.

I don’t know how much involved BAE was with the incremental development of Gripen C?

There was a whole department devoted to it.

Photonic radar is when insead to product radio waves using a klinstron or a TWT a laser is used to produce photons and they are converted into them once they reach the radiating elements. Something they used the acronim PhAESA photonic active elecronically scanned array but they tend now to drop the active as radio waves are not generated directly.
It seems to sport enormous avantages above actuals ones.
First of all it is Software definited: A,C, L, X or K band emission all from the same radar.
Add an extremely crisp signal also a great distances, with an image like resolution and a complete elimination of the ambient noise.
Several thousand of signals emitted in a tenth of second, so to gain both doppler beam sharpening and LPI at the same time.
Putting all of those things together, a real scourge for stealth planes.
And worst to all, actually we just had the first one of them operational.

So if they’re using photons, is that the same as quantum radar, or is that different because that uses quantum entanglement of photon pairs.

Su-25 more elegant in flight than a Harrier. The Su-25 isn’t even much more elegant than an C-130.
