Interesting finds, Peter!
On which airfield were they found? Are the parts from crash(es), or were aircraft scrapped there?
The aluminium part with the numbers (61672 2) could it be from a Halifax?
Thanks for posting these!
Jason
Well, it seems I am an AC-130 Gunship, god only knows how they worked that out!
I don’t think I dare take the aviation quiz!:rolleyes:
I got 13/20 on the Airliners.net quiz.
Did even worse on the aviation quiz…15/40

Nothing to report yet, but I’ve changed my p/w anyway.
Thanks for the heads-up.

I had the decency to fetch a spade and buried the poor creature.
I sincerely hope you also had the decency to find, or at least attempt to find, the cat’s owner. Also to keep what I would personally consider to be a dangerous animal on its lead from that moment on.
That dog should have been destroyed, IMO.
Having had one cat go missing for no apparent reason a number of years ago, I can well imagine the worry and grief suffered by the owners of that poor animal.
Sorry to go on, but I have absolutely no time whatsoever for irresponsible dog owners.

No family connections to aviation, but I’d like to get into aviation archaeology.
😀 😀 😀
Thanks guys, much appreciated!

Deplorable
Surely SOMEONE at one of the local scrapyards would have asked questions?
(Or am I being naive?)
If that person DIDN’T ask questions, then, in my opinion, they are no better than the scum who took it.
These vermin do not deserve to live in a free country, to steal memorials to those brave men who helped to keep it free.
I hope the propellor is found, and put back where it belongs.
All the Best,
Jason
I read this thread, and the website dedicated to the recovery with interest.
My personal view – and this is only my opinion! – is that those men did not ‘choose’ that spot as their last resting place, and as such they should be recovered and laid to rest.
Incidentally, what happens when a missing airman is recovered?
Does his name get removed from panels of the Runnymede Memorial?
Thanks.
