Tends to discredit himself with statements such as this –
New Delhi had lots of choice! The UK would have loved to build warships for India, as would France, Spain, Germany & Italy. South Korea would probably also have been happy to oblige. Denmark could have helped out for frigates & the like, using subcontracted E. European yards to supplement the Odense yard (closing – my Odense shipwright ancestors must be turning in their graves).
Cause IN relied primarily on Russian weapons, sensors and used Ukranian turbines as a result Russia was the only option when it came to ship building. But that has changed hence now IN can turn to other nations.
At this rate the UK will ask every country in the world if they would like to participate in the Type 26 including some who don’t have navies!
It is shame that IN fell back on plans to use modified Shivalik class for P-17A.
Shivalik were good frigates and better than Talwar class FFGs but i suppose construction delays and their final price tag ultimately lead IN to cut the order to just 3.
I guess just the
Mi-17aren’t we forgetting importance of Ukraine?
they sold Pakistan the Il-78 tankers, very important force multipliers
and T-84s, which reportedly the Pakistani Army prefers over Al Khalid.
And Ukraine has been favorable to China too, much of China’s current technology could not have been done with Ukrainian assistance. i.e. Varyag, tank engines, Su-33/J-15. etc
I have not heard Ukraine selling India anything, but if you heard other wise please let me know.
Off topic but fyi Ukraine has sold India countless gas turbine engines for naval vessels (if you add the value its more than their arm sales to pakistan) and served as consultant in design of some vessels. Also as sirpi it sold over 400 R-27.

http://www.cast.ru/22350 is getting Palash, 113567 – either AK-630M, Palash or Kortik-M, depending for how long Adm.Vysocky will stay in the office. Palitsa is still some distance away for the same reason.
What is the hold up with naval Pantsyr i remember seeing pictures of it being tested in late 90s.
Has JF-17 managed to bag any order other AF other than Pakistan? even China seems to hesitant to procure it? I would have expected to enjoy bit more export success thanks to lower price tag unlike the Gripen which faces heavy competition from Rafale/EF.
Russians will likely cover the cost for the cost overrun. But there is not much of time delay. Overall, its far better than what the Indian yards have been producing. Consider the case of P17, P15, P15A etc. MDL never had financial trouble like the Yantar. Where as Yantar was is real bad shape and many had criticized for giving order to built it there instead of Baltisky yard. But since the time funds was injected into the yard, they have produced and launched the 3 frigates at a faster pace than the top Indian yard MDL, for whom financing never seems like a problem.
Yantar is not a submarine specialist and the yard that may take the order to built the initial units are most likely to be Admirality or some other yards.
where?
P-15s delays are due to fall of Soviet Union a lot of things had to be changed (no Moskit) and not to mention the supply issues. Can’t comment on P-15A but for P-17 once again there were design changes post launch (further RCS reduction, Barak replacing Kashtan etc).
Regardless P-17 is superior platform to Talwar/Teg but the problem is it is more expensive (650 mill vs 500 mill) and of course takes a longer time to build.
Latest update for 113567:
32 cell Shtil VLS, 12 cell UKSK, 1 A-190M, 2 Palma, 2×2 TTs .
I am guessing Palma will use Postiv-ME radar?
Original plan was to have mixture of Kashtan and VL-shtil for air defense but IN disapproved of it from what i last heard only AK-630 will be fitted. Barak will be installed in refit in India.
Looks very neat in that digital camo scheme. 🙂
Why do they have the Indian flag on the tail instead of the IAF fin flash ?
May be because it is a prototype?
The LCH front profile and its paint scheme will make it quite effective platform in counter insurgency operations.
Pressure due to the Vikramadytia price-increase???
kind of “if you do not pay for the carrier you don’t get the sub”????
As i been saying from day one i believe IN was not acquiring/leasing any Russian SSN it was more of an attempt to get experience for construction of ATV and Russians were providing training and assistance in that department. Which was misinterpreted by media and low level personnel as plans to purchase an Akula.
Anyway nice to hear Tabar taking down some pirates hopefully we get some footage of the 100 mm gun in action..
Nice to see Tabar put to good use, Talwar class should do pretty well in these missions.
Indian Navy repulses pirate attack on Indian merchant Ship in Gulf of Aden
Ah, but CVF wont have the problem with the sortie rate and lifts, and the lack of aircraft isnt a ship design problem, but rather the fact that not enough aircraft are being purchased.
Even if IN build something as big CVF, the navy has same issue as Royal navy they are not procuring enough aircraft for them. With attrition rate of SHars (13 Mk. 51s left?) and only 16 Mig-29k (4 trainers) that’s not enough for Vikramaditya and Viraat. Hopefully order for another 30 Mig-29k are placed soon or N-LCA comes through.
Rigth, Taht’s the main modernization guideline. Neustrashimy will replace frigates and corvettes (from Krivak class to small Tarantul class, while Gorshkov will replace Sovremenny and Udaloy vessels. All of them will use missiles of the Club family. Large cruisers have longer life-span so will no be replaced in the near future but lifespan extensions seems likely. So, Russians will focus on carriers in the next decade.
I was under the impression russia no plans to procure missiles from Club family.
FYI ticon’s mK. 22 could keep up with Mk 41 in ROF the main disadvantage of those launchers where there is failure in rotarary mechanism or failed launch the system is rendered useless, VLS does not have that issue.
Who is to say Russia doesn’t stop work and ask for more money………not like that has never happened before!
If you referring to Gorshkov deal it was poorly structured and the aggrement never really fully detailed the costs. When the russians started adding up everything they realized they were in over their heads.
In other hand 2nd batch of Talwar should not have cost any overruns and construction seems to moving ahead, ahead of schedule. Real question is if Yantar will have 1st one undergoing trials before Shivalik is completed.
