For that matter I wonder if the new steam plant is anything similar to that fitted to the Kuznetsov.

The Steam turbines on the Kuznetsov require distilled water to operate properly, every time they send her out the water distilling equipment clog up and they then have to spend a year repairing it. She spends more time in the yard being repaired then out at Sea.

gorshkov will be fitted with gas fired boilers a total of 9 of those.

Shadow, there already was a plan for new Su-33, at first there would be an upgraded version with better electronics matching the Su-30MKK, the version after that would be equiped with Yakhont/Moskit and other anti-ship missiles. Not sure if they will go through with that, if the carriers are indeed to become smaller, than this aircraft would simply be too large (which is already a problem now).

didnt russian admiral go on paper claiming that Mig-29k is the future of the russian navy not the sukhoi. Let me to try to find the link for it.

c’mon just coz its not cheap means no need to change over to a better gun which is anyway cheaper comparatively???

I think, the final upghrade might get the new Shtil-I VL cells ….

    k some Kirov pictures .. 😉

you are saying that a-190e is cheap? Anyway i havent read of any plans to update the main gun, only thing i heard was plans to change the fcr for ak-726. Even if the main gun is replaced it would be oto SR for obvious reasons anything else is unlikely.

Did anybody notice these are 2 very different Kashin-based models?

Both rather poor conceptually if you ask me. Personally, I don’t see why main SAMs couldn’t be retained forward and rear as well as helicopter gear rear while installing 4×2 decklaunched Brahmos in place of 4×1 Styx and Barak in place of some of the AK230/630 and standardize on AK630. Maybe plug in a 100mm gun like on Talwar to replace twin 76mm. Better all round fit. Seems silly to have a mix of DL an VL Brahmos.

Horizontally inclined brahmos are for mainly Asuw where as the VL are for land attack, asuw and asw will be capable of carrying brahmos as well klub.
Don’t see the point of fiting in a-190e on kashin, the current main gun is decent enough and a-190e is not exactly cheap.
As for sa-n-1 the missiles are NEOL, they havent been upgraded yet. I am guessing the reason the rear ones are being removed is because they probably dont have enough missiles to keep both of them operational or they are being salavaged for parts to keep the others operational.

    From Jai’s Link :

” He also noted that RD-33MK engines of the next modification will be installed on the ship-borne MiG-29K/KUB fighters, delivery of which is planned for 2007 – 2009 to India, with an increase in thrust do 9 tonnes instead of the 8.3 tonnes of the basic engine and with increased service life and reliability.”

currently it generates around 19.830 Lbs of thrust according to latest reports but eventual plan is to devolop a variant with 22k lbs of thrust for Mig-29k or thats what IN wants.
As noted earliar, that will give 29k as much thrust as SHornet while weighting roughly 3 tons less.

Are the IN pilots going to get training on a/c carriers??? ….. well NO! …. then whats so much into the training that IN pilots can’t get from Russia and from simulators that the bosses need to throw more money to the American kity???

seems like its the merikkans aim to get to know what will make up the MiG-29Ks pilots and their caliber … its nothing more than that!

blackcat the key word in the article is t-45, IN is looking to procure Hawks for training purpose as well it will take couple years for them to be inducted till then, they need training in something similar to it. I believe this agreement was pushed forth by BAe which almost assures a potential hawk deal worth more than 1/2 billion by doing this.

it makes little sense to load up with a overabundance of ASM-version at the expense of the much needed ASW capability until land_attack IIR version becomes a reality. INs main threat from east and west is mainly submarines….IN has paid special attention to developing good sonars and many ships have two helicopters.

so I dont think they will compromise the ASW fit of godavari or delhi to pack in more
    brahmos.

in future a austere 6,000t design packed with IIR brahmos cells for land attack is
the way to go. a high degree of superstructure stealth will be necessary.

Godavari wont get VL brahmos as for delhi and kashin, VL brahmos is mainly fitted in for land attack not for AshW. IN plans to have standoff attack capability with its DDGs, original plan was to mount dhanush/sagarika on Delhi which was later dropped due to some problems. Even naval version of lora was consdered before brahmos was inducted which will fill in that void.

it has 8 VLS brahmos where the helipad starts.. u can see one small dot popping out..

guess i can see it would still need a better picture to get confirmation, but even the imds model seems to be dated one. INS rajput seems to be fitted with different launcher supposedly designed by L&T.

Great so I guess the last two kashins will have 16 brahmos each. Would the older three only have 8 ? IS it possible to requip other capital ships like delhi or godavari’s with brahmos?

the first three or atleast ranjit will also have 16 as well no reason why to fit just the last two. As for godavari they will likely get it. Delhi’s might get them in VL in place of one/both of the hangers probably once p-15a comes operational.

Moving my post in lca thread to here
did some research on Mig-29k and levcon it seems 9-41 was fitted with levcon in order to improve landing performance which supposedly was a problem for 9-31 when testing resumed in 1999.

So the airdefence of the Rajputs is now limited to just 16 Baraks? They have to remove the aft launcher for the VLS Bharamos.

I think they have a forward launcher as well… or did that go away as well?

yes there is still the 1 Sa-n-1 launcher and there is 32 barak SAM not 16.

    http://www.indiadefence.com/navyupdate.htm

No rajputs can only take 8 brahmos, which would increase the damage they can inflict. I believe the ranvir and ranvijay will get 8 vls brahmos while the older three can get 8 inclined brahmos box launchers. I wonder if there are any plans to equip the godavari’s with brahmos?

nope according to the model displayed they will get 8 inclined and 8 vls.

According to IDC rajputs will be fitted with 16 Brahmos, currently Ranvir is being fitted.
