The deal for a/c in the $1.5 billion Gorshkov deal was for abt $740.35 million which is most likely to include MiG-29K + Ka-31AEW + Ka-28ASW and not just MiG-29Ks as earlier mentioned. Now, if we take that into account, the unit cost of the MiG-29Ks would slid down further from the earlier mentioned unit cost of $45+million.

actually the refit is 625 million according to janes jan 28,2004, the mig-29k is 740 million and as you can figure out the rest is for training and ka-28/31.

The problem isn’t the US & UK “ignoring the world.” The problem is that a significant proportion of the world ignores the Global War that is afire all around them in the name of militant Islam (see: Afghanistan, India, Israel, Iraq, Thailand, Pakistan, Philippines, Algeria, Mauritania, Nigeria, Indonesia, Yemen, Russia, Ingushetia, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Qatar, Bangladesh, Dagestan, Kuwait, Jordan, Netherlands, United States, United Kingdom.)

Accommodation and understanding isn’t the goal of the jihadists, their stated goal is the submission of all with the sole worthy alternative for those who fail to do so being death – be they Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, etc.
    .

Reason why people say US ignores the world is because choose to react only when it or its intrest is attacked . US abandoned afghanistan and didnt give a damn when taliban were wreaking havoc, i still remember US admin fail to even condone seriously the taliban blowing apart buddhist statues. Nor did it really take any action when terrorists were blowing apart moscow or mumbai.

the attack wasnt really directed at UK involvement to iraq if that was the case it would have done during the elections. It was done during G8 mainly to further discourage any countries to contribute aid to iraq and afghanistan: i believe bush was to talk china and india into providind investment to improve iraq infrastructure and to normalise diplomatic relationship. After this incident i doubt that will happen and already there is increased pressure in italy and japan to bring back their troops.

Getting back to US and UK, if any british PM or any other country for that matter was to back bush they should get something else back in return. UK hasnt recieved anything for its involvement in iraq only the added bagage of allying itself with bush, failing to using it as bargaining chip to get full tech transfer for JSF for example.

The really weird thing was Madrid, it was exactly 911 days after 9/11. And these bomb attacks were a year after madrid!

year since madrid? madrid attack was in may last year thats more than a year.

Anyway sad day indeed, one of unijured survivors from subway in an interview that they werent rescued or recieved any help from the rescue services. They themselves found a way out of the train and only 2 police officers were present 1 hr after the attack as they exited the station.

can anyone tell me if the following has tvc:

    MiG 29k
    MiG 29m/m2

I could have sworn I have seen a picture of the latter with tvc engines posted on this forum. I can’t seem to find it anywhere now.

    Regards,
    USS.

29m/m2 being offered has tvc, as for 29k there have contradicting reports whether it will have tvc or not. However its engine rd-133 aka rd-33mk does have tvc (brochure mentions mig-29k).

in russian brochures when they size fighter sized they mean targets with 5m2 sqm, destroyer is 3000m2.

It seems that the Phazotron Zhuk MSFE is superior to the Bars in terms of simultaneous tracking and engaging capability, but I dont know about the range of the MSFE???

120 km detection range against fighters

Erm no, they even mentioned that the missile was a anti ship missile and it was fired by some one close by to avoid the patriot missile system.. look at the information on the missile above.. this news was on 3 seperate channels all saying similar thing that the only way the Iraqis could go through the defence was by using low flying missiles fired from close proximity!

yeah it was still fired from couple dozen miles and as i said before its cruising altitude is around 300 or so meters. When did 300 meters become classified as low flying? sea dart had no problem shooting it down during gulf war I and israeli gunboats shot couple down with their main guns back during the 72 war.

The Iraqi missile that struck near the Marines’ Camp Commando was identified as a CSSC-3 Seersucker cruise missile, which flies a few hundred feet above the ground and has a range of about 60 miles. The missile was probably not picked up by U.S. sensors because of its low flight path, military officials said.

matt, seersucker/silkworm cruising altitude is around >500 meters only in terminal phase does it fly low around 20 meters (only the improved variant which i doubt iraq). Besides I bet the iraqis made it have high cruising altitude and disabled its terminal phase to enhance its range/payload.

Dear Sameer , thats the problem, we are talking about the Grifo-M, as JonS wrongly stated that Grifo’s range was about +- 35 km. It would be a good idea to read the discussion first. 😉

actually you should read the discussion first, it was star49 who said grifo-m is similar to grifo-7 and as i said 35 km detection range for girfo-m was its look down detection range.
