after reading the article here is some intrestng key points-
-The CEP of the brahmos in land attack mode without the use of its seeker is less than that of exsisting tactical missiles like prithvi,agni-I ( so< 5 meters?) could mean that it has GPS or its INS is very good.
-Has limited bunker busting capability (equivalent to gbu-27?).
-Mach 8 speed of brahmos-2, might indicate DRDO is looking at some kinda of ballistic missile hybrid similar to israeli LORA.
-Air launched version will be one tonne lighter (so its 2 tons as opposed to 2.5 tons of yakhont-a?)
-300 km in less than 300 secs indicates its avg speed is >1000 m/s?
yeap its the forbin’s launch actually didnt see the dcn sign but just followed the links back to their source. Speaking of launch photos thought Shivalik and satpura launch was quite intresting as compared to launches of other vessels since their hull wasnt completed prior to launch.
My fave ships have to be the Frigates 054 “Maanshan” not so much as a wepon platform but as a ships platform. the clean unclutter deck space.now give this the new VLS missles to replace HHQ7.upgrade the AK-630 CISW with perhaps with “Tunguska” 9M311-M1 Surface-to-Air Missile. a all missles self defence system would be a killer’s!….[(NATO designation SA-19 Grison]also since it has a very large hanger a better larger helicopter than ka-28 for asw duty.no wonder the pak want this ship.s 4 of them so far!… 😉 .
Nice photos, anyway PN is purchasing F-22P which is quite different from 054 and are primarily purchasing the vessel because for its cheap prize: 600 million for 4 including tech transfer and assisting Pakistan SY build more back home. As for tunguska u mean kashtan-m1 anyway dont think it has much room for it fact that china chose ak-630 over its indigenous type-730 CIWS might be due to weight issues.
Edit:here is image of F-22P
Lets keep in mind that the largest diameter torpedo tubes currently in service are 650 mm (25.6 inch). These are in service only with the Russian and Israeli navies. Whereas Brahmos can’t be fired from any existing tubes, Klub can be fire from regular 533mm (21-inch) torpedo tubes as well as VL units.
yes well aware of that, yakhont/onyk was designed to be fired from heavy torp tubes but there is “no” plans to make tube launched version of brahmos, it sub launch version is only via VLS cells.
as far as extending the range goes , I think we should hear some good news on that soon , keep your fingers crossed.
i doubt IA or IN will release any info on that aspect.
Klub yes no doubt its a unique missile , specially the supersonic dart concept is so unique, I wished India funded and contimued with the developement of Uranium.
Novatar is promoting and devoloping Klub to it has little incentive to pursue uranium and as for IN there is little point in procuring it since there is brahmos and Klub. Chances are vessels fitted with uran might be replaced with brahmos in the long run.
I have no clue what a ATACM is

Any chance of a longer range Brahmos with Prithvi or Agni stage 1 ?
no reason for it its range is more than 300 km they even hint at it by noting its flight path is customisable.Anyway FYI there were reports that yakhont had a hi-lo range of 500 km.
Whats wrong with armidale? the price looks bit steep is that what you are reffering to?
is Jeanne D’Arc still operational i was under the impression it had some mechanical problems?
If i were to choose between the best platform on paper most likely moskva apart from what was mentioned by nuke they also had decent ASW capability for themself with their asw mortars.
Also worth mentioning in the list is JMSDFs Shirane and Haruna DDHs
Yes the sa-n-6 can be used against shipborne targets as can its kashtan, rbu-1000 and osa sam systems.
If you looking at just gun based encounter between the two it would be quite intresting Ak-130 vs 16″ Mark 7.
what makes u say its HQ-7? there is no sign of that?
But, I still keep my faith in the Gorshy able to carry the first said figures of 36 a/c on them. which cud be as much as 12 x a/c in the hanger and another 24 x a/c on the deck and in air (Ka-31 AEW)
gorshkov can carry 17 in the hanger (13 Mig-29 and 4 ka) thats without factoring in any space saved by mig-29k fold wing design.
singapore’s delta ffg looks pretty intresting especially amidhship
But to say that the Naval RIF is not a great system would be an understatement all Major Russian Cruiser carry it and they even tested a new variant of RIF with a range of 150-200 Km.
It has many weakness apart from what u mention its size, it also uses TVM+SAR like patroit and akash. So its FC radar top dome has to have targets in its azimuth so it cant intercept simulatenously multiple targets coming from different directions. Also you need 2 top domes to have 360 degree which is hard to implement due to the size of the radar unless u have platform as large as kirov, as a result slavas and probably chinese 51c ddg as well have a 180 degree blind spot. Also S-300F/Rif itself isnt so good against missiles, i believe min altitude is around 25 meters and min range being 7 km its maybe mainly due to its top dome FC radar. So its decent area defense system but not worth drawbacks and the $$$.
Altair sp? did address these drawbacks with Rif-M system which uses pure VLS cells, tombstone radar and improved electronics and can be fitted into even vessels with displacement of ~ 1500 tons+ but its very much under devolopment.
Thanks JonS for that list , Is the CG looking for more HoverCraft also the IN was looking at Murena Craft , are you aware of what has happened to that deal we were suppose to buy 6 of them.
Those 6 have been comissioned by the CG already

ACV i was referring to will be built by GSL it was mentioned in a article in early 2004:
GSL is also expecting orders for building Sail Training Ship, Naval OPV MCMV and ACV project from the Navy
As u might have guessed MCMV and OPV have already been approved but there hasnt been any info on this ACV.
then in Europe Aster is the only *FUNCTIONAL* system which can match the naval S-300 .
S-300 is good land based SAM system but its naval counterpart RIF isnt that great of a system it has share of weaknesses. We do need area defense SAM system but its not major need due to availability of ACs unlike PLAN and lack of any major naval threat to IN.
A definative Yes for Naval LCA , Two Prototypes (NP1 and NP2) are proposed to be built and flown to obtain clearance for deck operation by mid 2007.
From what i understand it will still be well into 2012+ b4 Naval LCA became inducted into naval arm, i think N-LCA slowly phase out Shars when that happens but with proposed BVR Harrier upg it seems that IN is no hurry to get LCA.
