harry do you have better shots of the aft if you notice the hanger looks quite different compared to INS ranjit’s hanger. i would say it has been removed in ranvijay for you know what but then again it could camera anamoly.

neptune the round launcher you are referring to is the canister all brahmos/yakhont are canisterised in the factory (with exception of air launched varaint ofcourse). keeps maintenance low (i believe it requres a check once every 3 years) unlike moskit for example. Unless you go to the assembly line or see the missile being fired you will never see the actual missile 😀

The KS-172 is not based on the Buk-M1 missile. I think you might be thinking of the theorized relationship between the Buk-M2 missile and the R-37 AAM.

Orginally it was supposed to be based on 9m38? but it underwent several changes the last know mockup showed similarities with 9m317.

“The mock-up of the KS-172 underwent refinement and in the Moscow Air-Show appeared in many ways similar to the Buk (SA-11 Gadfly) SAM (surface-to-air Missile). “

Jon, not aft, you can see the Barak VLS in front of the Ak-630. The hightened part where normally the forward pair of AK-630s is.

i am referring to brahmos 🙂 not barak.

Does anyone know if the KS-172 can be launched from tubes vertically up? that 400km range is very impressive would make a good ABM missile wouldnt it? a second tier to Trishul

Its because air launched at high altitude at supersonic speeds hence the range figure is bit dubious. The missile is based on Buk-m1 which has range of 50 km.

The KS-172 is lighter than brahmos at 750 KG. IF brahmos can be mounted on various platforms why the KS-172 too? Also 200 su-30 MKI and 100 odd MRCA should be able to carry the KS-172.

Because brahmos will be inducted by the navy which has requirement for some 1000+? As for KS-172 mounted on a MRCA i don’t see how any of those aircraft can carry it without significantly degrading their performance, let alone Russia or US allowing it to be integrated with F-18E for example.

    KS-172

KS-172 is more of RD project IMO, there is good chance that it will never see the light of day. Unlike Yakont which was nearly complete when Brahmos project was initiated, KS-172 is far from it and without a lot of $$ (which is hard to justify since its limited to just the flankers where as Brahmos can be mounted on various platforms) project will take quite sometime. But some of tech from the project will likely be assimilated into DRDO’s project such as Astra etc.

Lot of confusion IDF however was able to confirm this i don’t think there is another that chopper went down. However there is suspicion that it was shot down since it crashed while flying in a high altitude while providing ground support.

Israel is not attacking without intelligence, it is attacking two things – the Hezbollah support infrastructure near Beirut and other areas, and the other target is the Hezbollah firing positions in the southern areas. Hezbollah are not reporting how many of their terrorists are dead, so the only reports are those that they wish the western media to see. Unfortunately, when you hide in civilian areas, civilians will be casualties as well. It is Hezbollah who are to blame – or would you suggest that Israel just let Hezbollah terrorists attack, and not fight back because Hezbollah choose to use human shields?

Lebanon is not a terrorist organization in principle, however, its failure to even make the smallest effort to stop Hezbollah means that they are liable for the actions of Hezbollah. Hezbollah is actually part of the Lebanese government, and Lebanon has failed in its obligations under 1559 – when you choose to allow terrorists to operate from your territory, you cannot cry foul when the other side hits back. If the Lebanese people do not like what is happening, then perhaps they should understand that supporting terrorism makes you a (legitimate) target. If they want to end the suffering, they must tackle Hezbollah.

IDF chief estimated close to 100 Hizb casualty (includes wounded?), Hizbollah has reported 6 deaths including 3 in yesterday’s gun battle.

    Foxnews reports

Israeli authorities confirmed to FOXNews that an Israeli Cobra helicopter went down in northern Israel, not far from the border town of Kiryat Shmona. Officials said the pilot and co-pilot were killed. The cause of the crash was not known.
