Foxnews reports
Israeli authorities confirmed to FOXNews that an Israeli Cobra helicopter went down in northern Israel, not far from the border town of Kiryat Shmona. Officials said the pilot and co-pilot were killed. The cause of the crash was not known.
Looks like Hassan Nasrallah is still alive just gave interview with Al-jaz., he said hizbellah leadership is intact and damage to its capability minimal. He also reiterated the claim which IDF acknowledged that couple merkavas have been destroyed along the border in the fighting. There was report that Lebanese media is showing video footage of this anybody have screen capture of it, what ATGM were used?

according to this report here is a video of an Israeli F-16 shot down over Lebanon
it was missile or drone not a F-16.
Any design pictures/specs for the vessels? Will they be similar to Lekiu.
Interesting I thought Shtil was SARH guided all the way with Fregat providing just the initial track and then handing it to Orekh for Midcource and terminal phase.
Even if VLS Shtil makes it on Grosh , I doubt its a big logistics burden , But we still have to see what makes to the P-17 and the 3 new Talwar , Its possible that these 6 Frigate might have a VLS Shtil system
Fregat provides information to shtil’s command module which assigns one or more orekh’s to the target pre launch. It doesn’t seem to have ability to time share the illuminators like Aegis’s SM-2s.
I am pretty sure P-17s will get the shtil-1 as orginally intended not vl-shtil, the navy chief has spelled out that there will be no changes in specs except for minor design changes. As for new talwars there have been no specs released yet but few reports mention it will have barak not kashtan, not sure whether they confused barak with barak-8.
One of things i have find suprising so far is israel inability to take out hizb leadership or the militants, so far there have been few reports of hizb. casualty except for the military skrimishes. Is it because lack of intel?

Why would you turn off a “missile defense system” in order not to hit friendlies?
Are friendlies allowed to shoot missiles at your ship?
Probably they meant false alarms from friendly missiles/shells being fired at beirut that may be misintrepted as enemy missiles.
Everyone needs to wait for the dust to settle people are using this tragedy as way to promote their agenda. Remember back in iraq war when US army’s APCs and M1s were destroyed Senior Pentagon personnel were saying that they were due to New gen russian Anti tank missiles (Konkurs etc) that saddam had acquired. Didn’t Rumsfield even accuse russia of supplying these weapons in press conference when US offensive was getting bottled down in the south. Later on they turned out to be due to IEDs and RPGs. I suspect the missile was most likely an ATM launched from a boat.
– Does C-802 need a (dedicated) targeting radar, esp. at relatively short range as was the case in Lebanon?
– For the Israeli’s, it doesn’t make a difference of C-802 or C-701 as either one would implicate Iran/China. Even an hezbolla UAV with some explosives
would implicate Iran.
yes it needs radar also most radar guided missiles have minimum range, typically the time it take to turn on the seeker and onboard electronics and detect a target. That range is typically 10km+ for ashm, so if the vessel was a km from the shore the missile platform would have to be relatively well inside lebanon. Which is another reason why i don’t think it was radar guided missile.
I was just talking with a friend of mine in Israel and she has just lost a friend in the recent actions.
It is clear that someone is supplying very very sophisticated arms to the Hezbollah and also training them in counter insurgency warfare, the use of
Ja should be worth noting there is extensive black market for arms for terrorist groups so its not necassarily they came from Iran or Syria the funding might have (i.e LTTE also posses advanced arms similar to what Hizb. has). Once such source is after the fall of saddam many iraqi weapons went missing god knows where they ended up.
i doubt its silkworm, it huge missile something lebanon or hizb couldn’t have hid from israel and silkworm is quite easy to detect and shoot down. And if the missile of that size had hit it would have sank that ship on the spot, i am guessing it is ATM as mentioned before based on the damage they are mentioning, the ship structurally was fine but fire broke out.
Shtil is guided via Autopilot+midcourse guidance update from Fregat and needs illumination only during the terminal phase like SM-2.
A good question will be what SAM system will be fitted on gorshkov recent models showed only 2 kashtan and VLS Sam system/supposedly VL-shtil. But fitting in VL-shtil for just one vessel does not make much logistic sense.
No one has so far confirmed whatever on P-15A. By confirming do You mean posting copies of design bureau blueprints, Navy or government documents? There’s a model of P-15A at Bharak-Rakshak website first displayed in 2005 with VLS Shtil. This is as far any confirmation will go until the ships has been commissioned. Barak8 doesn’t exist in a form of combat ready complex, of course, if Indians are going to delay commissioning of the first P15A for several years, Barak8 may be available.
The model was to show off Brahmos not P-15A as for the model itself just because the ship has VLS cells doesn’t mean it has to be vl-shtil besides if you notice there are no orekh FCR present. When the vessel is launched we will see some shipyard’s models for it hopefully, like we did with P-17.
