Oh well I wasted my time above, that’ll teach me not to read through the thread before opening my big trap! But yeah this guy knows what he’s talking about and said it better then I.
What is your problem? I wasn’t even replying to you! I wasn’t slamming you and I saw your response but the guy still didn’t get it so I elaborated further.
From what ive gathered Colin’s managed to slip into the wake of the carrier undetected, take launch simulated attack, and get away. This later prompted USN to loan one of the Subs from Sweeds in order to improve defenses against similar subs. However as you pointed out im not claiming to be expert or know all the facts.
You don’t seem to understand how a naval exercise works. Usually in these cases the sub and the carrier group is put in a “box” together to force an engagement and one side or the other has artificial restrictions or advantages depending on who they are simulating or if they want to not reveal full capabilities. It is rare for both sides to use their full sensor capabilities and just go at it (it would provide no real training).
For example I’ve taken part in exercises where the ship I was on was simulating another class of ship and our radar and sonar both had range restrictions placed by the rules of the game, we were also told to stay within a certain area to simulate a straights transit, all of that was to help train a submarine and some aircraft. I’ve also seen exercises where the subs were told to stay at periscope depth to give the battlegroup lookouts a chance to practice spotting them in all weather conditions, these games are all about training and have specific objective, and the rules are written to meet them.
Unless you are privy to all the rules of engagement, what restrictions are placed on both sides (if any) and the time restrictions on the war game bragging about these “kills” is useless.

Not good news in the F-35 fanclub..
Get a clue, APA has absolutely no idea what they are talking about and have their own agenda to push.
Not many people seriously listen to what those people have to say.

Only a**holes who have an axe to grind against the F35 simply because it is not the F-22 would would make such nonsensical statements.
Yep, that’s APA.

Most of your post is rubbish but I’ll just comment on this.
Spain. Why do they even need an amphibious assault ship. They rarely participate in wars with the US.
A well designed Amphib is a very useful ship to have.
They usually have fully equipped hospital facilities, nice big flight decks for helicopters and extensive comms and C&C equipment that makes them good at disaster relief.
You don’t want to be dependent on another country or civilian company for the transport of your heavy military equipment, ask the Canadians about that (hint google GTS Katie).

Man, and that was from a SM-1………….do you know the range of a SM-1 or SM-2 in a surface to surface role?
Whatever the horizon of the FC radar is, usually in the range of 12 or so miles.
8 is enough to meet most threats and most countries rules of engagement and the fear of hitting civilian shipping means that long ranged over the horizon ASM attacks probably are never going to be common.
Besides a few AA missiles like the SM-2 can be used against surface ships and can be fired off quicker than a harpoon.
Chinese naval fleet completes first at-sea replenishment
DESTROYER WUHAN, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) — A Chinese naval fleet en route to the Gulf of Aden and waters off Somalia for an escort mission against pirates completed its first replenishment at sea Tuesday.
The fleet, two destroyers and a supply ship, has entered the Indian Ocean after a four-day voyage which set sail from China’s southernmost island province of Hainan.
In the afternoon, the supply ship Weishanhu successfully refueled the two destroyers Wuhan and Haikou with several hundred tons of oil, an operation that an official for fleet support described as “highly efficient.”
The fleet will cruise for about 10 days before arriving in the Gulf of Aden to join a multinational patrol in one of the world’s busiest sea lanes endangered by surging piracy.
The recent pirate attack on a Chinese fishing vessel has raised great concern of the Chinese government and people. Statistics showed that some 1,265 Chinese commercial vessels have passed through the gulf so far this year and seven have been attacked.
The UN Security Council has adopted four resolutions calling on all countries and regions to help patrol the gulf and waters off Somalia since June. The latest resolution authorized countries to take all necessary measures in Somalia, including in its airspace to stop the pirates.

We are supposed to be impressed by this? It isn’t even really news.
Yeah it had an accident killing some crew. Which caused a furor among the leftists here, don’t think Americans are to blame for it though.
But Russian accidents happen before they deliver 🙁 like in the cause of the subs.
The Indians were unfamiliar with the sewage system on that ship, it was completely different than what is on all other Indian ships and a gas leak unfortunately killed several people.
With all due respect, we don’t know the facts of the incident. Let’s extend the sailor some respect — he did give his life in line of duty.
The fact was that he wasn’t a crew member and he rushed to help in a situation that probably didn’t need his help.
Maybe you need to re-read my post. Person that died was not from ship’s crew, but i guess in other navies sailors are superhuman and they cannot die from suffocation. And the photos are in enough resolution to be seen that the ship is well maintained.
If he was not part of the crew and wasn’t familiar with the ships DC equipment he should of stayed out of the way of the people who knew what they were doing. It sounds like he rushed in without proper fire fighting gear (whatever the Russians use) and was killed for his stupidity.
