As far as i am aware, the only one still operating in the UK is owned by the MOD, a -400 for weather research I believe?? I recall seeing it blast off smoke and all from whatever military airfield is close to Salisbury station (thats where I was when I saw it) an that was about a year ago.
In tandem with this, what is people’s opinions (sensible, not “they are a load of rubbish”) on the rulings that have meant these aircraft an no longer fly? I think it is a crying shame, but the price of progress. Wouldn’t it be nice if some rich oil tycoon with a passion for aviation could keep one running for airshows etc. I promise I’l do that when I make my millions
I suppose they could make considerable amounts from ancilliarys as well, although your right Duchy, business class and first class pax do subsidise the lowest fares. They would have to fill every single one of their flights to the brim I should imagine, and with only 2 744s they would be in big trouble if one went tech – mind you backpacking types are unlikely to be as fussed as business types. Its an interesting one this.
Its a nice format, and a nice idea, but I really find myself doubting it will. That is a very narrow market, and i should imagine the set up costs are very very high. If I was flying from UK to Aus, I could get a ticket on a ‘normal’ airline for in the region of £800, so BPX would have to be cheaper to tempt me. Mind you, with an all economy layout there will be significant economies of scale to be enjoyed so maybe they could get their fares lower. There are good reasons why LCCs dont operate long haul, and i wonder why this airline will be any different…
Would be great to see it be successful though
Ive just heard that they are cutting a load of jobs actually, due to lack of defense contracts. It seems unlikely.

Thos 1-11s were great. Had a great trip one an AB Shannon example in the late 90s. It went tech and the airline put us up in the Grand hotel in Brighton, no wonder they went bust. Nice hotel though and great planes.

What do you mean? Pls explain!! Cant you attend college during the week and learn to fly at the weekend?

They do make a very noticable noise I’d have to agree. Ive flown numerous flybe. 146s and always found them pleasant, if slightly dated inside. Always thought I’d have one in my collection when i’m a multi millionaire, although from what i read they can be unreliable. Be a shame when flybe get rid of theirs.

Also they have quick acceleration when used out of short runway airports
Its obviously a strange one. Perhaps I should have been more careful, he was perfectly pleasant to his credit, just wondered if anyone had had a similar problem. I suppose it was Belfast, those of you who live in the UK (and others) would understand why security iss somewhat tighter there. It was amusing however too see his face when I said there is nothing anywhere saying I couldn’t!! You have been warned!!
Well thats what I wondered, I can only presume thats what I would have had to do, which would have been even more annoying. At the time I was very angry, but I dont think you can take any chances with security people these days

Im fairly sure that there is a national express coach link between all the airports, although thinking about it it may only be LHR and LTN. You could check it out on nationalexpress.com
Thats fascinating, thankyou very much. Any chance you could give me the location of where you found it so I can investigate the source further, it is exactly the sort of thing that would be very helpful.
