The other one was ARCo’s first Lysander, was it not? Sold to Kermit Weeks and, shock, hasn’t flown for quite a long time.
14- BM597, EP120, MV293, PV202, PT462, JG891, X4650, AR213, N3200, MH434, EE602, SM845, TD248 & PL983.
SM845 and TD248 are based at Humberside but occasionally call into DX for maintenance. TD314 and NH341 are based at DX but regularly fly out of Sywell or Headcorn throughout the summer.
I take it you missed the announcement of ‘Hun HunterTexas’ also being confirmed for ‘Legends after gaining new clothes? I personally think we ‘needed’ a 78FG schemed P-51 back on the airshow circuit- especially to a P-51 that’ll be based permanently at Duxford. At the end of the day, it’s the owners discretion as to what scheme his P-51 goes in and we should be at least thankful to the airmanship and craftsmanship of the guys out in America and back at Sywell who made sure ‘Contrary Mary’ is ready for ‘Legends 2018.
A handful of Soviet Hurricane’s were converted to twin-stick spec.
Does this mean Avspecs Ltd. will be at Legends?
Yes.
It might be the ugliest single-seat Spitfire variant but it’s very original and would still be very welcome here in the U.K. I’m casting another vote for it to be put back into the blue colour scheme it adorned!
‘The Shark’, ‘Miss Helen’, ‘Tall in the Saddle’ and ‘Miss Velma’ under a new guise once the repairs are complete. ‘Berlin Express’ is still lodging at Duxford with an uncertainty as to how long for. As mentioned previously, we do always seem to gain one or two more warbirds when we lose one (SL721 being a prime example), no matter how gutting it is losing such a historic P-51 to the UK airshow circuit.
And another two: Comanche’s Spitfire I’s. Always great to see.
Hmmmmmm
It’s container watch time!!!!
Most likely to be one of the horsemen I would imagine – most likely Steve as he is always here. Is young Stevo heritage flight certified? A fantastic young pilot and top lad as well!
“Stevo” Hinton is not a qualified USAF Heritage Flight pilot.
As for containers, I think the one for ‘Legends might have already been and gone. :very_drunk:
Anyone know what the deal is with TFCs t-20 ‘flyer’? She has been sat with her Centarus off for well over a year now? Assume it may be awaiting approval further to the Culdrose incident post investigation with RNHFs example? I know they have their lovely single seater vr930 just sat waiting to fly!
WG655 hasn’t flown now for nearly 4 years and the engine is sat in H2 gathering dust. VR930 has been waiting to fly for a number of years now but paperwork issues with the MAA kept that on the ground and now I understand VX281’s rebuild is now the main target.
And what percentage – if I may ask – of the UK voting population is actually involved in going to, officiating at, and/or flying/maintaining/paying-for airshows? Miniscule is the answer. There is NOT “a very significant industry”. Therefore, it is a minority sport. So there is no overweening need to keep any of them in existence. Would save an awful lot of needlessly spent money. One could, possibly, exempt RIAT and Farnborough? They are, after all, not airshows but corporate bunfests where manufacturers and/or bankers try to flog NEW aircraft, as opposed to displaying OLD aircraft. And I speak as one who did a significant number of the very early IATs at Greenham (working 18-20 hr days/nights!).
HTH – but I know it won’t because minds that are already made up are not susceptible to reality!
Resmoroh
Minority sport?! You perhaps missed the memo that said airshows are the second most popular outdoor attraction in the UK. The first is football.
And new food?
I have always found the caffs at Duxford pretty uninspiring.
Moggy
Food has gone downhill since last summer, can’t see it getting much better really.
‘Write Your Soul’- composed specifically for the Horsemen flight team.
How long has that been the case, it must be fairly recent ?
This year. However ML407’s summer home has been at Duxford for many years now.
