    International Airmail to the US is carried on Passenger flights (maybe freighters too i am not sure about that).
    United Airlines carries Royal Mail, and mail from the various other Postal Services opening up (Deutsche Post, Swedish post etc..) and US Military Mail, the US Forces mail is only allowed to be carried on a US Carrier.
    All mail is security screened like Cargo, you would not believe what some of those Yank forces guys try to send home in the mail, lets just say the Police have been involved more than once !!

    On the subject of Air Marshals, i work for a US Airline, there are more Air Marshals on the flights across the Atlantic than you would probably believe.

    Can i just check the timing of the flypast over Buckhingham Palace, is it definitly 13:00.

    I flew San Francisco-Sydney on United and we were up the best part of 16 hours, but I don’t know if we had 3 or 4 pilots to be honest.

    United always have 3 pilots onboard their 747 and 777 on International flights, this is to allow the crew to take their breaks and still have 2 pilots in the Cockpit.
    I have always found it odd that Uniteds pilots get allocated their own First Class seat to have their break in, rather than go the normal curtained off rest area that the FA use. I don’t think it looks very professional to the First Class passengers to see a pilot come out of the cockpit sit in a First Class seat, recline it back and go to sleep for a couple of hours …

    I must really try and find the time to transfer my video filming of the Last, Last Lightning show onto DVD :rolleyes:

    Sounds like you must have been close to where I was filming from πŸ˜€

    And yes trying to keep the days monsoon out of the camera was a real nightmare on the day, luckily I’d had taken a supply of plastic covers which did a pretty good job, was even able to wrap the boom mike up fairly well.

    Thanks for the answers chaps, i would love a copy of this , is there any way we can get this put onto DVD, even a copy of the VHS tape would be good, i can transfer onto DVD ???

    I am not old enough to remember Sea Vixens flying in service, so this has been my first chance to see one fly.
    Although i think the scheme is pretty vulgar, i would much rather see it fly like this than not at all, or i would never have seen one fly, and very impressive it is too.
    I hope she can return to service colours one day in the air, but i am just happy to see her fly at all…

    Does anyone know what the plans are for G-NAAT XM697, its at Exeter i believe, this use to be the Gnat at my Air Cadet Squadron in Woking, it was complete with working Electrics and very well looked after, had many a time sat in the cockpit with the Instructors, from the photos i have seen it looks far worse off now, should have left it with the ATC.

    My Brothers and Myself inherited my Fathers huge collection of Aviation Photos and Books dating from the 1940s-1990s, there is no way we would ever sell anything no matter how desperate we were.
    The best way i could come up with to remember him was to start scanning and logging his photos onto my PC then onto the Internet for the world to see, better that than they sit in old boxes in the loft.

    Do those bulky pieces fit in a belly?

    Looking at just how big the useful cargo spaces in a belly are… like Boeing 717 rear cargo compartment… the height of belly is at most 99 cm from ceiling to flat floor at most 84 cm wide, in the front belly… in rear belly, there is not supposed to be a flat floor… the rear belly compartment is a total of 540 cm long… the cargo door opens inwards, and needs a clearance that extends across the aircraft centerline…

    Pretty awkward place to insert big bulky pieces, isnΒ΄t it?

    On the 767, 777 and 747 that we handle the standard Cargo Pallet is 125 inches long, 96 inches wide and you can go to 63 Inches high. So if you have one piece of freight that big on a pallet then i would call that fairly bulky !
    You can fairly comfortably fit a Formula One type car on a pallet, and on a 767-300 you can have a long piece (Such as a Yacht Mast) up to around 146 inches long as the Pallets are loaded lengthways down the Aircraft from nose to tail, they have to be turned as they go in the door.

    I work in one of the Cargo sheds at Heathrow, there isnt much Cargo out there that would fit in the wings, most of the stuff we ship (mainly to the USA) is big bulky awkward pieces.
