The Bolingbroke project is moving on with the first coat of paint being applied. She will wear standard Canadian training yellow colour scheme.
9940 Bolingbroke, East Fortune by wwshack, on Flickr
Interesting comparison to when it arrived following the Strathallan Collection Sale in 1981.

A few photos of some items from the collection which may be of interest. Unfortunately they are from after the auction when the majority of the collection was sold off.
The last two are of the Bolingbroke and Bristol Sycamore arriving at East Fortune after the auction (with the DH84 Dragon already in the hangar). My recollection is that the Sycamore was bought by a private individual and was simply stored at East Fortune for a couple of months til it moved on. I think it is now at the Dumfries and Galloway Museum.

Sadly they only reflect a small selection of the collection that he built up.

Hi Ross,
Thankyou for your amusing and interesting reminiscence, herewith a picture of your Thompson block and the rest of the Domestic site taken around 1999. I took the photo from a Cessna 172, (The Forth Radio Traffic Report aircraft), coming round for finals on the old 08/26 runway, in fact, it was the last day of operation on that runway before permanent closure,….if my memory serves me right:rolleyes:.Gerry R
It would have been sometime shortly after 26 June 1999 when 08/26 closed. I did my first solo from RWY 08 on that date and it was closed very shortly afterwards. I believe I am the last person to do a first solo from Edinburgh as with its closure flying circuits at Edinburgh was no longer possible.

I agree it takes some courage to put together a display with such dissimilar aircraft. I certainly would not be willing to try it.
Video of even more dissimilarr aircraft displaying together here – http://www.crazyaviation.com/movies/ash25_3.zip. Its a zipped file so needs pk unzip or similar.

Just wondered if anybody had any photos of the Leicester Museum’s J/1 in its silver dope finish before it was recovered in the mid seventies and repainted into its current cream/green finish.
Had my first ever flight in it in those colours and would like to see what it looked loke as I only have a vague recollection of it.
Thanks

Depends, might have been him cut it out! :diablo:
Not quite. I had my very first flight in it and shortly afterwards it was re-covered and I was given the old fuselage fabric wth the reg on it.

As you are 4 miles from Edinburgh go along to Edinburgh Flying Club (http://www.edinburghflyingclub.co.uk) and have a word with Bob Graham (Chief Flying Instructor) or one of the other instructors. Pick a day when there is no flying flying (ie rain/fog or phone first and check) and Bob will happily provide you with tea/coffee and answer all your questions.
Its a members owned club rather than a profit making business and the instructors are not hours builders – they do it because they enjoy it

Oh yes, and I collect train numbers as well. I’ve got one and it’s in my study at home. Nine square feet of scrap aluminium from Collector’s Corner, 55 018 it says 🙂
Applies to a/c as well – I’ve got the equivalent from G AGOH.

It is now suspended from the ceiling over the comet racer with the other planes that dont often fly now. Things like the humming bird and the English electric wren. And what i believe to be a Westland Wallace (or whatever the first plane to fly over everst was) replica that someone is building. Any ideas who is building that?
A further photo of Twin Pioneer G AOEN in the de Kroonduif colors may be of interest.
Given the prescence in the background of what looks like a Bristol Belvedere I would guess it is at Farnborough in 1957.
g45
You can do sometjing about the altitude in a TwinPin but any overflight is going to be slooooow cos they don’t do fast. 😀 I think VNe is in the regione of 150 knots
Heard a new nickname for it on Saturday – The Painting – because in a decent headwind it just hangs there.

Mexicanbob was lucky to fly in the Pin, and from its birthplace too. Wonder what it was doing there?
Anyone know?
It was celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first flight of the Twin Pioneer on Saturday 25th June 1955. There was a lecture programme during the day and at the end of the day it taxied over to the Scottish Aviation (now BAe) part of Prestwick to let the guests (mostly ex SAL employees and RAF chaps who had flown it) take a closer look at it.
Some photos attached.

Now that looks like a bit of fun, cleveland 200? any idea of the manufacturer?
Its actually a new design from the fertile imagine of Lynn Williams- the designer of the Staaken Flitzer mentioned earlier in the thread – and wont be available as plans for a while yet. In fact I dont think its more than a few sketches at present but could not resist sharing the drawings.
g45
How about one of these. British designed and none exist.

Not very good quality I’m afraid but here is a pic of East Fortune’s Comet touching down at EF after its final flight.
