Hello again, I am in the Midlands. I have a Canberra in bits.
Does anyone know if there is an interest in the K88 airship gondola from a museum or private individual?
I have often wondered if they would get more sponsorship if they changed more often into correct paintschemes.
Never understood painting (and modifying) a G model like an F (apart from film work), but hey it is not my plane. To me it looks a bit like a MK19 spitfire in MK1 colours.
But, rather see her flying in Cadbury’s purple than not at all.
So who owns the Comet/C-47 at Lyneham? What are the current plans? What will happen to Lyneham? Are there any contacts?
Hope you can help.
Hello,
What will happen to Lyneham after closure? Could one of the hangars be used for storage/museum display purpose?
Also isn’t there a C-47, where will that go?
Thanks,
Chris
Good evening gentlemen,
I thought it is time to address my new fan-club!
The only reason I mentioned te Vulcan because there is unlimited amount pumped into it, and I personally (sorry my personal opinion) think that it would be better spent on more practical/worthwhile causes like Sally B (that was my link). Long -term Sally B is the more important and more practical aircraft to support.
Back to Sally B, I have a lot of respect for those people and wish them well, and will support them. But I think losing three engines (unless the last one is OK?) is NOT normal!
But please don’t try to convince me that the systems on a Vulcan are simpler than on a B-17.
Bye
I am no expert on these motors, but I have never heard of any other B-17 operator to have such problems, I think they better have a serious look at their maintenance/technical approach. This is a joke.
There is a Vulcan flying (although I personally think it is a waste of money) but a B-17 can’t be kept in the air? That is fairly simple technology. What are they doing? Bearing failures, are these old inhibited engines? Storage oil can have an impact on bearing coatings. What is going on????
This plane is far more important than this Vulcan, which apart from cool looks, achieved very little!
Sorry, feel better now, but please guys get your act together!
Good luck!
Hello,
Try contacting Heritage Motor at Gaydon, they hold a lot of the Standard-Triumph archive material.

Gentlemen,
Listing means absolutely nothing in the UK!
The survival of historic sites in the UK is totally in the hand of the owner/developer!
English Heritage has not the slightest knowledge or interest in military or industrial heritage.
Regards,
Chris
It is a shame if not criminal hat the Inspired project has been removed from the list.
Britain with all its Science and Industry Heritage needs a place where this is celebrated for the nation, Wroughton is the ideal location.
It is not just aircraft but a fantastic collection of Science and Industry related material!
The story about losing the arfield is a joke, they intend to build a large additional building and keep the remaining hangers.
Actually a very functional building compares to RAFM and IWM developments.
It is not surprsising that this decision has been made though:
1 Britain is only talking green these days, even though it is on a third world level when it comes to recycling, pollution and modern technologies used in house building, etc.
2 Britain lost its industry and is now blaming the industry for pollution etc.
3 The organizers of the event knew that the Science Museum had a very good chance of winning this, and removed them from the race to let the green (politically correct) vote win.
The Inspired project will happen sooner or later.
Saving the environment is not being achieved by planting trees and living in a bubble.
It is a challenge that has to be met by Science and Industry.
That is why Wroughton and the Science Museum will in the end get there!!!
Once again has industry in Britain been treated wrongly by peole with no vision and an extreme political vision!
Hang in there Science Museum!
I must admit I have been sceptical about the project, but seeing the footage, one can only say what a fantastic achievement by al involved.
I hope the coming years of display will be safe!
Yes, for some reason we are extremely good at this!
There is also an open day at the Science Museum’s store in Wroughton near Swindon. They call it Science Museum Swindon now!
They plan to open this site to the public in 2010, I beileve this was mentioned before on this forum.
Chris
Because you lost your industry!
(Unfortunately)
Saving heritage?????
Hangers for the Vickers Collection at Brooklands
Hangers for the Concorde at Filton/Heathrow/Manchester
Hangers for the airliner collection at Duxford
Hangers for the large aircraft (including future acquisitions) at Cosford
That is what preservation is about!
It is all about covered square footage!
