There are many good shots here, but I´ll go along with the last four voters – 53/3.

I have to say its very hypocritical of UKAR to announce the new update here.

I quote from a recent post on their forum

“The flypast forum are a bunch of prats”

Also had a nice e-mail from one of their members “The flypast forum is just a kids playground oh sorry you spend plenty of time using that site”

Sorry if I disagree with you, but I guess that´s really unfair, on a forum that has 900+ members, to use one or two references to denigrate all the members that post there. If we really considered this forum to be what you mentioned, we´d never bother to browse its pages and read its threads, and much less to announce the new UKAR here. If we´re here spreading the news, it´s because we´re looking very much forward to having you there with us, commenting and criticizing our reports when you feel it´s necessary.

I can only speak for myself, of course (although I believe that´s the general feeling there), but I will welcome any and all Key members who choose to be part of our forum, and read our reports on the new UKAR website. There´s no point in pointing fingers to each other – we all love aviation, and that should be enough for most of us to treat each other in a respectful manner.

Some of you probably already know that I´m brazilian, and still live in Brazil. Despite living thousands of miles away from anybody else, and speaking a different language, I was never discriminated there. It was quite the opposite – I was always treated very nicely, as if we were mates for a long time. If I learned one thing using UKAR, it´s that everyone´s got a chance there to be part of the family – it´s up to you if you want to or not.

BTW, I´ll have my full Old Rhinebeck report with pics posted there in about a week. For all those who like antique airplanes, Old Rhinebeck is like heaven – a wonderful place, very much like OW in the UK.

    God bless you all. 🙂

Really excellent pictures, F6F. Many thanks for posting, we get photos from your side of the Atlantic posted all too rarely here. Do you have any of older aircraft at museums or airshows in Brasil that you could post here? I’m sure we’d love to see some, that sort of variety is what makes this forum so special.

I really love the ones of the Bleriot, a nice complement to the ones of the Shuttleworth one that many of us saw ‘hopping’ across the airfield there yesterday.

Once again. thanks for posting. Where will the article that you mentioned be published? Perhaps you could post a link here when it appears.

I will post the link Mike, rest assured. And I have pics from antique airplanes at museums here, but they were all taken with a film camera, and are not good. I really need to find some time to pay a new visit and take some digi pics of them. I´ll let you know when that happens.

Am I right in thinking that most of the aircraft are replicas?

That´s not entirely true. It´s about 50/50. In the pics above, the Bleriot XI, Curtiss Pusher, Curtiss Jenny, Standard D-25, and the Stampe are all original machines. The Nieuport XI isn´t, but has an original engine. The Tiger Moth, the two Great Lakes, and the Waco aren´t replicas either. Only the WWI machines are mostly replicas, but some have original engines (like the Fokker D.VII, Sopwith Camel, and the aforementioned Nieuport).

Can anyone tell me if the shoulder pads are the rudder bar or elevators?

Ailerons. Glenn Curtiss was a motorbike driver, so he wanted to make turns the same way he did with his motorbike. Hence the shoulder pads for lateral control – he just had to move to the side he wanted to go.

Cheers all for your nice words.

Septic – the collection is OK now, according to people who I talked to which are responsible for managing it. They had a few problems in the past (among these was that the funding for the Spirit of St. Louis replica they are building dried up after 2002), but things are looking better now. BTW, this airplane, which is almost complete, looks really neat!

Andy – the Curtiss Golden Flyer is called the Curtiss Pusher, and it´s an original machine (like the Bleriot XI). I don´t care about the stars either, because that´s a reflection of who´s posting here, not what´s posted here, if you understand what I mean. But I´m OK with that, and won´t hide the fact I post my pics on UKAR regularly.

For more pics, as I said, access the UKAR forum, or wait for a report about this airshow which will be on the web shortly. 🙂 And many thanks for your comments – they are very much appreciated.

Zero. Is the PoF Zero (proper engine – not US substitution) airworthy? That’d be cool.

That´s the original Zero with the Nakajima Sakae 21 engine.

F6F – This is a kind of courtesy visit, but, i guess exciting for the crew. Rio de Janeiro is a WONDERFUL city, plenty of sights to be seen. 🙂 The design of the bridge is different from other USN carriers, don´t you think?

Ja Worsley – I´m not saying that i doubt you, i just said that i really don´t believe that they could afford with that due to the current economic situation of the country. I will appreciate if you can keep me informed when you get this info from the journalist that you have mentioned, tks 🙂
The P-95 squadron in Florianópolis is based on the other side of the civil airport sorrounded by mountains, beaches (beautiful place). It is very common to see them flying around the island, departing and returning from missions.

    Regards,

    A-29,

it´s definitely a different design. Starting with CVN-76, US carriers will have a different island design compared to the one used in previous Nimitz-class ships. The Nimitz, after its RCOH, emerged with a new island configuration which is very similar to the Reagan, with no radar abaft the island. It´s a better looking configuration, IMHO.

The Smoke Squadron flew yesterday here during the olympic torch commemorations. Mind you they only did flat passes, since the ceiling was very low.

More CVN-76 pics have been posted on UKAR. This is just one of them:

A-29 – I understand CVW-11 has not been completely deployed. Both VFA-94 and VFA-97 are not on the ship, and she has neither a S-3 Viking (VS-29) nor a EA-6B Prowler (VAQ-135) squadron either.

    CVN-76 pics

I shot these yesterday when the USS Ronald Reagan was coming into Guanabara Bay, around 0930L. I could ID on deck 8 F/A-18s (four Es and four Fs), 2 Blackhawks, 2 S-2s, and 3 E-2Cs.

See my post about this matter above. 😎
And I don´t see why one should be against the military assistance from anybody, unless one´s country is able to afford and maintain operational its military equipment without foreign help. Very few can.

GE´s powerplant is the F404-GE-400, which is rated at 18.000lbs with reheat.
