Is the 1942 date correct? The Mustangs seem to have merlins.
Harrows on the left?
There was a discussion here about this aircraft a while ago. The search function should bring it up.
Chox, you sure the two airbrake panels don’t vary each side (upper/lower) of the wing?
Yes, they do. I agree with Webpilot’s comment, the spacing looks off.
but although the underside brakes feature the nine “cut-outs” but they’re divided unevenly into a block of two then four then three… all very odd…
That is how they should be.
Incidentally, there’s a good few on the Ark Royal – did you see the programme about is discovery?
Bruce
Are you sure? Ark Royal was sunk in 1941, while the Barra did not enter service until the end of 1943.
The image of “New Propellor” is interesting. I didn’t realise Bleriot’s had a factory in England (East Anglia) during the war – anyone know what they produced?
Roger Smith.
Defiants? I Wonder if the artist meant to write Boulton & Paul?
The Albacore did indeed crash in Glen Turret, hitting the hillside a quarter of a mile from where the Walrus crashed.
A medical team from RAF Errol visited the crash sites shortly after the incidents.

No its a historical comment from a guy in Germany.
Maybe historical should be replaced with hysterical?
English Heritage hold all of the Old RAF aerial photo’s from 1945 onwards, you can order them (for a fee ) and they will send you a copy on disc, if anyone is interested?
Ant.
The RAF photos of Scotland are held by the RCAHMS in Edinburgh, as are the wartime PR photos of occupied Europe. Some of their photos can be viewed online at their website.
The PR collection includes some great shots of the PR aircraft. The aircraft shots were taken on unused film at the end of sorties by the photographic staff who didn’t like leaving part of the film blank 😉
I use the bus to and from Dundee and rarely have problems. When leaving Leuchars I walk down to the bus stop at Guardbridge and never have any problems getting a seat on the bus.
78 squadron did, in fact attack the Tirpitz, but not from North Africa. Nothing to hand at the moment but google should bring up something.
Westland Whirlwind originally had counter rotating props.
Err, could you translate that please? I do not have a clue what you are on about.
You can use your own camera to copy most documents at kew.
