Wasn’t this strip built by the CO of 602 (or 603) Squadron for the use of his Squadron? He lived in the big house.

Mmm, I wonder if Avro asked Vickers for permission to name their jet bomber “Vulcan”? I bet they didn’t. Has anyone have any hard evidence of British aircraft names having legal protection at any time?

Were names a legal issue in the 1950s/1960s? I thought that that the current hooha about ownership of names came about with the arrival of the corporate lawyer?

Thats the way I read it too. I thought that plans were already underway to survey the UK’s seabed wrecks? Seems a bit odd to me to be spending a lot of money twice.

Maybe Northolt and Debden got waterlogged from time to time?

Used as taxis to ferry London based naval officers to their ships or other establishments?

I remember reading some time ago the Mr. Flacks Spitfire G-FIRE had blades that were cropped as well. I’ve always wondered if she still has the cropped prop as she is now (NH904) in the US. Does anyone know if this is the case?

Dunno about now but here is G-FIRE at Dyce in 1984:

I once read of a Barracuda unit in Ceylon being told to crop the their prop blades. The following day, and after the job had been completed, a further order arrived stating, “For Barracuda read Seafire.”

    Oops. 😀

Why don’t they drain the English Channel so that we can recover all of the aircraft wrecks. It will bring us closer to Europe too. :dev2:

    Hi Paul,

If you use the advanced search over at the RAF Museum site, you will find that Hendon has some Jaguar publications. I’ve no idea if the volumes are still closed – an email to Hendon would, I imagine, clarify.

Thanks for the responses guys. I’ve found some of the Kew held APs to be incomplete so being able to copy from the volumes held at Hendon is great news.

What is the situation regarding copying APs at Hendon? At Kew I can photograph pages with my digital camera. Is this allowed at Hendon?
