I expected this route to do well for 3 reasons:
1. Dubai is a popular destination in it’s own right.
2. Emirates reputation as a great airline.
3. Emirates hub offers good connections to Asia/Australia and passengers now have an alternative to using AMS/LHR to change flights. (I wonder if traffic on the GLA-AMS/LHR routes has changed much since Emirates arrived at GLA)

Continental is a great airline imo; I flew with them 3 years ago; MAN-EWR-IAH on their 767/777/DC10 a/c. All flights were very good from memory, pleasant cabin crew, decent food(for an airline) and good IFE.

These are not rare aircraft, dc10fan. What made you think that they were?
Grey area,
If you checked some facts then you would find that PH-MCE/F are actually very rare if you consider the variant; a 200C. How many airlines run passenger-configured 747s that have a nose-loading cargo door fitted? Boeing only ever built 13 of these a/c. That makes them rare in my books?
Tenthije,
You being Dutch? should know that KLM had PH-BUH converted from a 200 to a 200SUD then converted it to a 300SF. This being a model never offered by Boeing.
Here’s another Airtours B757..she needed a new nosecone. Q: Which airline supplied the part? (quite easy)
The 757 is one of my favourite a/c but I wouldn’t fly on one long-haul. Twin-aisle a/c are so much better for those times when you want to walk around and a stewardess is blocking one of the aisles with those carts. I’ve flown Continental(great a/l) on their B767/777s and they all have PTV entertainment. Why don’t they offer this on the 757s?
Good topic; I always like to know exactly which a/c I’m flying on. There are some good acars websites that should be able to advise a/c used. Scheduled flights seem much easier to trace than charters though.
This is my current favourite..a great a/c that took me to New York 3 weeks ago..

Nope, LIS was 747/757/767 all summer. 737s were used on the short EU routes, BRU, AMS, etc. My Dad was on the last one into LHR, from BRU 😉
The 747s was only used for a few days during Euro 2004. Most flights in July/August operated by 320/757.
Bigjet,
The spotted 737 was probably G-DOCH as that hasn’t been operating at LGW for a few days and it is still painted in the “Grand Union” cols. See link below
Based on above info, I thought I’d go one further…
B737-300 … … 8/14 … … PH-BDE/G/I/K/N/O/P/BTI in the new cols..

I quite fancy a trip on Biman’s Dc10s but not for a 10-11 hr flight. I may have to go to Chittagong and they do operate them on some domestic flights between Dhaka and Chittagong….there’s an idea.
Good to see a foreign national carrier operating more services into a UK regional(ie. non-London) airport.
Great report/photos. The A330 looks good in the new MEA cols. Back in Aug 88, I flew on a BA B747 from LGW-MCO. The a/c was reg G-BLVE but was actually
OD-AGH on lease from MEA.
LBArules,
Thanks; corrected.
RIPConcorde,
These are the better seats fitted throughout some B747s but only in rows 9-18(between Door 1 & 2) on others:http://www.airliners.net/open.file/380555/L
These are the more basic seats: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/124882/L.
