IFE on KLM MD11s not great; old style tv screens. Their B747s are the same; only the A330s and B777s have avod screens in seatbacks.

It looks like I am going to have to pull out of this trip; my car needs to go into the garage asap and as I live 90 miles from LBA I won’t be able to use any alternative transport to get there for a 0700 flight. Hopefully I can get to AMS later in the year.

    Pembo,

In the last 2-3 weeks the 757 only operated the BA1332/1333 (1245 ex LHR then 1530 ex NCL) on Fridays and Saturdays. All other flights were operated by A319/320 fleet(according to my sources) Your flight tomorrow is almost always a A319 but an A320-100 does appear occasionally though. I suspect that with some of the EF 767s being transferred to LH, then the 757s are having to cover more European flights. Most shuttle flights to GLA and EDI are also operated by A319/320s now.

Oh another thing my flight doesnt have PTV’s 🙁
Only ever had PTV’s once on my flight and that was UA 777 LHR-JFK, very nice flight that was, the Monarch A330 had them to TFS but only for the snobs in first class. Im not bothered about going on the 767 i just don’t like the flight plan, i mean wouldnt it be more economicaly viable doing LGW-MAN-VRA instead of MAN-LGW-VRA doing it like MYT are doing it there is an extra 400 miles on the journey, and believe me i worked that one out.

A/C is probably based at Manchester hence the routing; otherwise it would have to position to/from Gatwick just to start it’s journey.

BA flights from LHR to Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Los Angeles, San Francisco & Tokyo were moved to Terminal 1 early last year. I assume that these flights have a large number of connecting passengers from Domestic/European airports so would ease the transfer process. Both flights should be on B747-400; all long haul flights from T1 use these a/c. The B777s live at T4(and some at LGW)

Excellent shots there; imo the best I’ve seen on this website. I’ve been to ACE twice; the LTU 330 & Monarch 763 touchdown shots must have been hard to capture. Did you shoot throught the wire fence or over it?

I’m not convinced by the “turbulence” reason used by the cabin crew. The only way they would know is from the pilots telling them in which case the “fasten seatbelt” signs would have been illuminated. I fly Humberside-Ams regularly which is a shorter sector than LBA-AMS and the KLM crew always manage to serve drinks and a sandwich with time to spare. I have flown with Jet2 and was generally pleased with the service though.

Anyonelse notice something unusual in the shot of the A380…… an airbridge attached to an upper deck door? Afaik this is a first; few airports actually have double airbridge stands and I’ve never seen this on a B747.(Maybe not possible due to door opening)

I’ve decided to jump on the bandwagon and just booked some flights for the 13th Feb meet as well…managed to get Aer Lingus from Birmingham for £53.

    T5,

I agree with all your comments entirely; many people still seem to consider BA to be elitest and not able to offer what any of the travelling public wants. I for one would always choose BA over a loco and most times I’ve checked/booked; the fare is little more for a vastly better service(usually newer/cleaner a/c, some inflight service, more legroom etc).

Great photos; I’ve considered that trip as a means of getting 2 flights on an EI A330.

Good report; I thought the requirement for your credit card was fairly common for sel-service check-in. BA/KLM/LH all require the card used to make the booking.

No offence, but this shouldnt really be in the Trip report section, you will be much more likely to get more replies in the main section of the forum.

Good point; now re-posted in correct section.

bmi will be nothing more than easyJet and Ryanair now I’m afraid, a great shame.

Expect bmi-baby type service but you will fly on much newer aircraft. The cabin crew wear a nice uniform (unlike bmibaby) and don’t expect to be delayed (like bmibaby as well ;)).

    Flex 35

I think they will be better than Easyjet/Ryanair ie. more legroom, allocated seating etc
